So I've been pulling my hair out all week trying to deal with the black face bug.

I use shiva's vanilla hair replacer and I've been trying to get it to work with males of skyrim (the one that got ported on schaken mods). I'm specifically using males of skyrim because I wanted an npc overhaul that includes Cicero, since I'm doing the dark brotherhood questline right now.

Unfortunately, nobody's made a patch for males of skyrim yet so I'm getting a black faced Cicero (along with a few other NPCs). I'm very unfamiliar with the creation kit and sseedit and have just been picking up a few things here and there trying to deal with this issue. I figured I would try and fix Cicero first and then use the same steps to fix other bugged NPCs as I found them.

I followed Shiva's video on how to export facegens to get rid of dark faces, but I think I'm getting lost in middle since she's mostly working with mods that add new NPCs instead of editing vanilla ones. So far I have tried two different things that haven't worked:

  1. Loading the skyrim.esm, update.esm, dawnstar.esm, shivas hair replacer.esm, and setting the males of skyrim.esm as the active mod. Then I selected all three Ciceros under the actor category (cicero, cicero road, and cicero dawnstar) and ctrl + f4'ed to export facegens.
  2. Loading all the game + dlc esms (skyrim, update, dawnstar, hearthfire, dragonborn) males of skyrim.esm and setting shiva's hair replacer.esm as the active mod. Then I selected all three Ciceros under the actor category again and ctrl + f4'ed to export facegens.

Both times when I loaded my game Cicero no longer had a dark face, his hair was changed by shiva's mod, and the changes made by males of skyrim did not show up. I'm an idiot and I know I'm probably just messing up something with which esms I'm loading/making active but I genuinely am not sure how to go about making these two mods cooperate.

Any help would be very appreciated, thank you!
