AnubisRaven
So, I was playing around with the console the other day, and I spawned a Gargoyle Brute, only he didn't look like a typical brute, he was huge, black, and spiky. When I hit him with my sword, he covered himself in this sort of stone enchantment, and then attacked me. I had to break through the stone to hit him again, and eventually I killed him. Is this some sort of easter egg, hidden somewhere in dawnguard? If so, I've never found it before. Is it just a leftover asset they didn't use? If so, I should wonder why not, it's very cool. Crispyballz
No, if you mean by the stone enchantment that makes him into stone again (like gargoyles are before they attack) it's most likely a glitch that he acted that way. Besides, the gargoyle brute can be found in Volkihar ruins. (if it's spelled that way)

The ID I typed into my console to get him is thus: 02010cfa and his ref ID is: FF001950 And yes, I encountered gargoyle brutes in the Volkihar ruins, but they just looked like normal gargoyles except for the name. AnimeOtaku102
What level is your character? Maybe they're meant to only appear at max levels like legendary dragons? Or they could just be assets that Bethesda never got around to implementing, plenty of that in their games.
UrgeNexus
I've fought Gargoyle Brutes and for me they've only been stronger version of Gargoyles. Like Bandit Outlaws compared with plain old Bandits. I suppose it could be an unused asset, the console gives you access to absolutely everything, some of it never intended for actual in-game use. If not, it's possible it's a higher level version of the Gargoyle with the same name, though I doubt that.
