Whats up lately?

Is it just me or do you also have the feeling, that more and more people get banned for not being able to read and follow the rules? People get so unfriendly lately, when I read some of the comments on some files here, it worries me sort of and I ask myself, if certain people behave like this in real life as well. I think, criticism is always welcome, but did you also notice that the tone in general got sharper and more unfiendly? Is that a general thing you also noticed in other forums / places and / or in real life too? What is happening? I totally see the need of bannings, this is not what this topic should be about, I just wonder what is wrong with people in general, that they have to be banned for being arses...

Think about the whole political world landscape though, the world economy is in the tank, people are struggling to survive, and all people realize I hope, that when people are struggling and desperate it creates crime. I think it's a reflection "in here" of "out there".

I edited your title just to avoid any confusion. At first I was dreading this thread until I read your post.

There are lots of possible reasons. Myrmaad has listed some good ones. Couple this with the fact that Fallout 3 has been a title that folks have been waiting for years to see. It carries its own fanbase. It has also traditionally (and still is) marketed towards an adult audience due to its content. We have become quite a well known site and as such you can expect people from all kinds of backgrounds with varying personalities.

When you have any large amount of people, there is always going to be conflict. It's human nature. Nothing personal, just like my job here.

It will pass I'm sure. For now though, I don't want this turning into another thread bemoaning the rules here and questioning moderator decisions. Let me state now that all such posts will be deleted. You may have your say, but not in the lounge area.

EDIT: Not that I'm blaming Fallout or its fans. I'm making lots of new friends who are Fallout players. I'm one myself. My point is, we used to be an almost exclusive TES hosting site. Now we also host FO3 files. Those are two great dynasties. It's just an increase in site users for both Oblivions ever growing popularity and FO3, which will only grow bigger once the CS is released.

Please, I never wanted to criticize the bannings, as I said, I even understand, what you guys are doing. Seriously, I do not wanna have a job of a moderator, I think, you have to shake your heads very often. I am happy that you got right, what I wanted to say!

-- Be sure, that I did not want to start a thread for something like that. I just keep on watching people and I think, that Myrmaad is totally right with saying "In here" and "out there"... I just really noticed, that it got more and more. And I was wondering, if this happens only in my blonde head or if it is also other people noticing that. If people answer to that, this is what I wanted with opening that thread and if they also get impolite here or start a discussion if the rules, just close or delete it then. :) I think (or hope) that people who become a member here have read the rules before, so they know what kind of place that is. :P ... just btw... so a discussion of that should not be neccessary anyways.

as long as you weren't "coming on" to her....lol

I agree with myrmaad and mavrosh, somethings amiss.and personalities in the real world will follow those people to the forums or into their gameplay I would imagine.

Open hostility takes many forms, and I speak from experience, not from an opinion. To some flaming and trashing speaks of some deep rooted problems within their own personalities.

Stress and the whole world going to hell or so it seems only bring out the ones that thrive on calamity.I ignor them and move on,let them wallow in their own "stink",and they deserve banning!

ok stampede,If I was wrong,just say so :)

Indeed, on these forums I have found increased hostility. And not just on ratings for files. One specific incident happened due to MASSIVE overreaction. Or maybe I'm to lax and my idea of starting an argument doesn't involve telling the truth. You have to be very careful on forums to avoid misunderstandings because (obviously) they can't hear your tone of voice or facial expressions.

I think, what also makes it difficult many times is the languages... My first language is NOT english for example and sometimes it might happen to me that I misunderstand something as well. But my education taught me to politely ask then, like "How did u mean that?"

It's better to ask then surmise, especially with language barriers. Some just like dishing it out,but when tables are turned on them get hostile too.Once someone repeatedly wrongs me,I'm done with them forever!

people also don't quite know how to take me,which often results in misunderstanding, they choose to see the word rather than get to know the person.
