Adipose
Most dwelling mods that I've seen have created structures that are simply too large for me to feel comfortable...what with my companion and I being the only occupants. Primary exception to that being the new Hearthfire constructs, and even those could use a few tweeks...such as a full on spousal relationship(kissing, hugging, sleeping with and...fade to black.) and a higher location for more scenic grandeur. In many ways Breezehome is a perfect location and size. The only thing it lacked was an enchanting table and a mod took care of that. It's got the smithy right next door, which is actually closer and just as easy to reach as the basement smithy in Hearthfire. Plus, it's got the advantage of two merchants from whom I can purchase smithing supplies. Also, it's got the handy bedroom for my follower...Lydia that is. Haven't tried it to see if other followers can make use of it. My guess is no. BTW. I don't kow who came up with the idea of putting the smithy in the basement in Hearthfire, however, most of you should be aware that the carbon monoxide from the smelter and forge would eventually kill all the occupants upstairs. I noticed that the designer of the Roriks Keep mod put his smelter in the lowest level in the donjon, however, he/she was smart enough to install a chimney that runs up through the wall in order to vent outside. Yay!
Tzontlimixtli
I must agree with this. Though some of the mods look fantastic, I do get bored of running around to do simple crafting, even in the Hearthfire houses sometimes, if I've not set out the right containers. I must add, that I'm rather surprised at the lack of Hearthfire mods that add NEW modular houses. Being able to build various types, such as an Orcish longhouse, or a Dwemer villa would be pretty cool I think.
Korodic
I have something interesting on the way. There's a mod out a lot like it but I intend to make my version way more functional.
dragonslayer2k12
I have released several house mods already but none of them are compatible with DG/HF yet. I want to finish modding all the player houses I am interested in modding before upgrading them to work with new dlc. I can't stand forges and smelters in the basement or anywhere inside the house! That is just silly and it takes away from using the npc for resources and saves the player money which in the long run is not good. By the time you get to the end of the main game you have a small fortune and nowhere to spend it. Better to waste it away somewhat in the main game before you get to the end and besides, who wants to live like a hermit smelting in a basement anyway? I guess the only exception would be a dwemer home where the air is circulated with dwemer tech. I build resonably sized home interiors not the gigantic deals with 500 smelters and 2000 storage boxes because I want the mod to fit in with the game. I do add some additional beds though since I am planning on making stuff compatible with HF but also for modders that make follower mods so the player can bunk their extra followers somewhere maybe even use mods that let extra followers live at a particular house until the player gets back and needs them again. I like your idea about doing "other" things with the spouse but I certainly would not fade to black hehe:-) oh and there is a mod for that but it is not just for spouse which is what keeps me away from it plus it has bugs but maybe in time it will be better. TheGreenLion
I don't much care for gigantic castles and such either, but some of them are just amazing! My own mod isn't HF compatible, and it's not overflowing with nifty features that folks like AmethystDeciever have come up with. All that scripting makes my head spin, lol! It's pretty simple with some artistic embellishment, and I've provided a couple of books I've written to sort of give it more weight. Anyway before I get carried away, I'll say this. Large castles and mansions are excellent if you have a ton of followers and collect everything (literally, everything you pick up gets put in your house somewhere). Small houses are nice because they are small and some are really quite elegant without going overboard. Mid-range houses are exactly that, they sit in between the huge castles and the small houses. It all depends on the style too, some are dark and mysterious, others natural and earthy, for every character out there, there's probably a house that fits their own style. Oh and I think the compatibility is more geared towards HF and the adoption of children and pets, etc. It's not that it won't work, they just don't include the features.
