qaz123
I tried to see if there was already a problem discussed like this but couldn't find one. My level 38 character is finally ready for a level up. Unfortunately when I go to a bed to sleep the game crashes. I have searched several places on the internet to find a solution starting with uesp.net, but couldn't find anything. So then I went into the .ini file and changed bInstantLevelUp=0 to bInstantLevelUp=1. That just crashed the game the moment the savegame loaded. I'm guessing it is caused by mods, but then again it might not be. My character has over 1000 hours of gameplay. Anything could have happened error-wise. Anyhow, if someone could lend me some insight, it would be most appreciated.

Ethre
Hmmm. Are you using a leveling mod? If so, then there may (and may not) be an issue there. Can you try console leveling?
dezdimona
first go to options and diable save on fast travel and save on rest, after hours of game play they corrupt files and save games.Leave the save on sleep,it's ok.Disable all your mods, make a clean save and then try to level up and see what happens.Chances are a mod may be causing your problem. Maigrets
Have you recently updated to the 1.2 patch or since you last leveled up? I found this piece of info that fixed the very same problem for me. Sometimes the game would hang and sometimes it crashed when sleeping to level up. QuoteCheck in your Oblivion.ini file for the line "STrackLevelUpPath=". If there's anything after the "=" containing the word "vault", delete it. With the 1.2 patch, BethSoft left a reference to one of their servers in the code, so when you level up, it tries to connect to that server. On my machine, this caused Oblivion to minimize, rather than crash (although that often led to it crashing) because for some reason not being able to find that server sent the Java VM platform into spasms. I took the reference out, and now I can level up without Oblivion minimizing or crashing.Unquote. I keep all sorts of little bits of info I find in a folder. They often come in handy..
