ThePopeKYA
I've started having a strange problem recently where NPCs in high-traffic areas stop updating facial expressions. Basically, they'll be talking to me or to one another but their facial expressions and lips do not change so that, essentially, they're speaking without moving their mouths. As you can imagine this is a huge immersion breaker that I'm hoping someone here can help me fix it. This only occurs outdoors (I've mostly noticed at the first gate to Riverwood and along the road just before reaching Whiterun). If I enter into a dialogue with a glitched character, they regain full lip sync and expressions update correctly. However, if I exit the conversation their face freezes on whatever the last expression was that they had on their face, leaving me with a wide-mouthed and dopey-looking NPC. Of course, initially, I thought it was a mod that was causing this, but I can't imagine which one. My first guesses would have been "Guard Dialogue Overhaul," "No NPC Greetings- Slightly Reduced Distance NPC Greetings," or possibly "Player Headtracking." After disabling a number of likely suspects, I've seen no change in this behavior. Any tips or reasons why this might be happening? BTW Is there a way I can simply copy and paste my mods and their load order? I really don't want to type all them out if I don't have to. Thanks for any help you can give! SonnySN
im no professional at this, but it seems to me that your system may be slow, and that the expressions cannot "catch up" with the dialogue, i have the same problem with one of the modded followers that i have. this is the conclusion i came up with after researching this predicament

When I picked up the game again this month, it just randomly started. And my rig is strong enough to run the game on ultra without any problems (i7 Quad Core, GTX 560, 12 GB RAM). Even with shadows lowered and draw distances shortened though the issue remains. But you could still be right. I'll keep looking into it. Still open for more though! mindofmike
Just noticed the same thing on my game so you aren't alone. I will try a few things and get back to you. It's probably not your system becauseI have an i7 3770k @ 4.5ghz and a GTX 680 which should be more than capable of handling Skyrim. Must be a mod problem of some kind. Edit: Did it truly start randomly? Have you updated any specific mods recently? Edited January 3, 2013 by mindofmike

I'll start going through them ad see if anything changes.
ThePopeKYA
I uninstalled every mod outside of my texture replacers. None got rid of the bug. Not really sure what to think now.

mindofmike
Disabling the Skytest mod fixed the problem for me. I read about another Skytest user having the same problem and as far as i could tell it was never resolved. I loved SkyTest but I guess it will have to go until i can figure out why its causing that problem. Lots of people are using it with no problems Did you try starting a new game after disabling your mods? I'll try it on a new game today when I pick it and update if that fixes the problem. *Update: Yep, it was SkyTest. I even reloaded an old save and did the wait 48 hours trick and all the NPCs were back to normal. It must've been the recent update that threw it off. Kudos mindofmike. That was driving me nuts.
