CTD out of nowhere on saves that worked fine previously.

I woke up this morning and after tending to my kids, sat down to play a bit. last mod i installed was a few days ago, started a new game and haven't had any major issues before this morning when I booted skse, and my saves were crashing in the loading screen. I have been as diligent as I could when installing my mods and checking requirements and conflicts, though i'm sure i missed a few. This is for my current Character that I will refer to as N

 

My other Saves are loading fine for my other character(I'll call him C), whom has the exact same mod listing, but did have the same problem occur a while ago. I just gave up and restarted that character in a new game after doing some cleaning and removal of mods not needed for the playstyle. I can't seem to find the reason as to why N is now having the problems the old C had, but the New C doesn't.I'm mainly worried about how everything worked fine until this morning when my saves began to ctd without prior issue.

 

Even though I have attempted modding off and on again for the last decade I still consider myself a newcomer and would love some assistance and getting a handle on this. I'm using Vortex and Wyre Bash, I also have SSEEdit and have done some basic tutorials with these tools.

 

I've never posted in these forums before but have used them as a reference guide several times when troubleshooting. I've attached a text file copy of my mod list that I exported from Wyre Bash.

idk if it applies, but in my games, if there is an "island in the sky" over or near to over the giant's camp roughly half way between Whiterun and Rorikstead, or scripting slows to a grind, (both of which seem to happen with ~some regularity) saves fromn the location are corrupted and no amount of cleaning or futzing with mods or load orders will make them loadable. I usually have to step back a save or two, to wherever I first noticed sluggishness in scripting or other oddities. No idea why. It "just is"

 

In fact, If I see that island of material, or if things get sluggish, I try my best to get to a safe haven like breezehome (before the game CTDs), then sleep for a few days, make a new save, exit the game entirely, clean the save *thoroughly" with fallrim tools (including purging Non-existent scripts, which often has several thousand entries), save the cleaned file, then reload the game and the cleaned save then avoid the center of Tamriel for a while. (It sounds tedious, but really the whole process, IFF I get there in time) takes no more than a few minutes.)

 

 

so, try to get somewhere inside safe, where you can idle while scripting catches up and whatever minimal garbage collection the game directly engages in can do its thing)

I would try this if I could get any of N's saves to load. I've run every save back to her birth, however every save fails to load.

Not a one huh? You've clearly got some mod that's messing things up.

 

Did you install ANYTHING recently? If so, try uninstalling it.

 

When I run into stumpers like this, I methodically uninstall mods starting with the last installed mod, following up each time with a game check to see if things are working. If they do, I follow it with a new save and then a rinse with Fallrim tools to clear leftover clutter. If not, it's on to the next to last installed mod ... until I'm able to use the game, followed of course by a trip through Fallrim tools to clear the crud.

 

I hope you're able to find the culprit and squash it. I know personally how frustrating it can be. There was a moment there, about 11 months ago when I almost walked away.

I was completely unaware that could be a risk. Thanks for letting me know, I'll avoid doing that in the future.

Some things I could not get working until I removed Immersive Citizens altogether. The faults do not necessarily show up until well into the game.

I also recently tried the Auri + Lucien + Inigo combination. I think it would work with a simpler setup but it seemed to mess up other mod NPCs, although the worst thing was hearing the same banter over and over again. This even happened during normal game dialogue and impacted performance in busier spots.

In view of the game's tendency to throw odd events at you from time to time I avoid mods like Immersive Patrols that add to the program's difficulties. If you get bored travelling areas of fairly empty terrain, try Undaunted.
