Stuttering? Choppiness? What is going on?

Hello, all.

I arise with a generic problem, as I have researched it for hours and have found different threads created on different websites about the matter, without being able to find a solution. I have tried lots of things, .ini tweaks; graphical settings; AA off/on; AF on/off; different resolutions; v-sync off/on; FPS caps; nothing seems to do it for me.

I play on a HP dv7-6187cl laptop. If you don't feel like clicking off, the specs are as follows:

i7 2630QM 2Ghz up to 2.9

Radeon HD 6770M

8GB RAM

1.5 TB HDD (2 X 750)

Moreover, I recorded a video that somewhat illustrates the problem. I apologize for the terrible camera work; I utilized a camera since oddly enough the problem disappears while recording with FRAPS. Okay.

If you fail to see the issue, look at the crosshair, or fast forward to 1:24 where it's a bit more clear.

Quite frankly, I don't know what to call this. I've played Skyrim under different circumstances and I never encountered this problem. It's not completely game breaking, but it's essentially annoying.

Assistance bitte!

A few suggestions based on previous experience:

Skyrim sometimes hates framerate caps. If you're capping your framerate, try disabling the cap. If I cap my framerate at 30, Skyrim stutters to an astounding degree. It sounds backwards, but it can happen. Forcing vsync in your drivers can have the same effect for me. ENB, a capping utility, or drivers can all cap your framerate.

Skyrim might [possibly] respond badly to overclocking in some situations. Once I overclocked my graphics card, and Skyrim slowed down inexplicably a few minutes later. I'm not sure the OC was related, because disabling it didn't help anything.

Your VRAM could be hitting it's limit, though that's not very likely unless you use a lot of HD textures. My 768MB card is more than capable of putting vanilla Skyrim textures on ultra.

You may want to try fiddling with your audio settings. In the past, Skyrim began to stutter shortly after I turned my music volume to max. I don't know if the two were related. I would think the idea is ridiculous, but Morrowind had mouse bugs if you turned the music volume all the way down. It's a possibility.

You can also try restarting your PC. I have no idea why Skyrim is so touchy about stuff like this, but that fixed the problem for me once.

I've had almost every Skyrim stutter bug known to man, so hopefully one of those things works. When I fix one thing, another seems to break. I think finally, after four clean installs and countless restored backed-up files, I may have fixed the stutter for myself. Hopefully it lasts this time.

Try de-fragging.

Try freeing up your RAM.

Try FancyCache.

Try running CCleaner.

Try disabling your AV when gaming.

Try cooling your laptop (Cleaning out dust, cooling pad, etc.).

Try disabling HyperThreading (Games perform worse when HT is enabled).

Try limiting Skyrim to two cores.
