Khet
First off, I'm going to point out that this project will move kind of slowly (after the initial rush that is hehe) because I'll be juggling my time between my Evanore Island mod and this one. Now, here's what I'm thinking. There are quite a few buildings and houses in the game that you cannot enter. My main focus is to make ALL buildings in the game enterable. That's the easy part. However, I don't want to stop there. I also wouldn't mind adding a new tram, or sewers or even a new Vault or two. So, if anyone has suggestions on what they would like to see added, whether it's based on a 'theme' or not, or just other ideas to make Exploration more enjoyable let me know! Also, it would be helpful if folks could point out these locations to me (mainly focusing on the Wasteland right now, afterwards I'll start working on D.C.) Edit: I've found that there's 320 DoorBarricades used throughout Fallout 3, take off 50 of those (being VERY generous here) for some windows and overall I'll be adding over 250 new interiors. That's not counting any possible buildings that were blocked of by rubble, those will be harder to find.
Doedel
Hey, I'm currently working on a "Settlements Expanded" project which will mainly focus on enlarging and opening up settlements throughout the wastelands. This will involve adding new structures, houses and residents to settlements, or in some cases "opening up" closed-off structures that are in settlements (for instance many of the houses in Big Town are closed off/boarded up, whick I'll be opening up to add more living space and more NPCs; similar to Canterbury Commons and others). I'm not planning on anything "outside" of the settlements in terms of opening up non-settlement buildings or adding more locations etc, but since the Settlements Expanded seems atleast partially inline with your idea, maybe we could work together, at the very least to avoid conflict issues? Khet
Sounds good to me. However, in terms of my mod I won't be adding a ton of 'new' buildings, only opening up current buildings such as the boarded up house in Springvale near the school. But, since you're going to be working on settlements I'll keep away from any 'closed' buildings found in there since I assume you'd open them up yourself. Shoot me a PM sometime with what you have planned and I'm sure we could work something out.
Khet
Well, I've gotten the walls and floors and such done for twelve interiors so far. Right now the names are rather uninteresting "Abandoned House" "Restaurant" "Store" stuff like those, so a few names would be nice for the businesses and shops and such. I HAVE confirmed that there are about 200 doors that have been blocked off, but quite a few windows were blocked, too. With that said I'm also planning on making it a bit more than just new interiors. There are a few quests that where the entire story will be told through text and such. I highly doubt I'll be adding any new NPCs or even dialogue for that matter. Again, if anyone finds any doors that are blocked off by rubble, PLEASE, let me know so I can get to them. Other than that, not much to say really, except repeating that names for shops and such would be nice, having hundreds of generic names would be rather lame, don't you think? Doedel
Heheh, yeah. Well, shop stores are easy to come up with... stuff like "Frank's Diner", "Shelly's Toaster Emporium", etc.
Khet
Hah, sure, but like I've said I'll be working with maybe 100 buildings in the Wasteland alone (my initial focus) after that I'll be working in the DC wasteland which has a LOT more shops and such. Thinking of 100s of shop/store names is still a bit difficult. Anyway! Quick little update. Three interiors have been fully cluttered now, only one of them has enemies inside. For my initial release I'm thinking about having 25 new interiors scattered throughout the Wasteland. After that I'm guessing maybe each release will add 10-20 new interiors to explore until the Wasteland is finished. Once the Wasteland interiors are done I'll jump into the DC Wastelands and start doing those. For the first DC release I'm hoping for 35-40 new interiors before releasing that version, after that it'll be 10-20 new interiors again per release. couple Screenshots of what I have done so far: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/Bakohryu/Expanded%20Exploration/ScreenShot0.jpghttp://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/Bakohryu/Expanded%20Exploration/ScreenShot1.jpghttp://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/Bakohryu/Expanded%20Exploration/ScreenShot5.jpg I gotta tweak the lighting in the Rendezvous (not that good with lighting yet) and add some of the street litter and such. Other than that I'm thinking it looks good. For the house I think it's nearly done (the other room could use some clutter though!)
Doedel
TBH I'd suggest waiting until you have quite a large number of extra interiors... even though 25 IS a lot of work, 25 interiors stretched across the wasteland won't be too easy to find or notice for most players. So I'd maybe suggest either releasing more interiors at once, or focusing on and releasing specific regions of the wastelands so atleast when a player walks into said region they're like "woah, yeah, there's a lot more stuff to enter and explore!" Khet
Yep, already planning that. I'm dividing the Wasteland into sections and working on one section at a time. I've already figure out all that I need in terms of what cells belong to what sections and all that, though with the Wasteland a lot of the stuff is scattered (buildings and the like) so I might end up having to release two sections at once or some such. For DC, I'll be focusing on one district at a time, after the first or second districts are done (depending on how many I open up, there's one district with seven blocked doors) I'll release them like that. Arjai
My friend and I are teaching ourselves to use the GECK. One of our project ideas was to open up a few houses and stores in the DC area, since it really seems to be lacking enterable buildings. We're thinking about something very small scale. Could we help you out at all with making cells and stuff when you get around to modding the DC area? I've got a few neat ideas as to how to make the interiors of houses look unique and not like clones of each other.
murphymurphy
Yeah, I'm the other guy Arjai was talking about. I've been working with CS to better prepare myself for GECK, but now that it's released I guess I'll go ahead switch over. My friend and I will keep in touch as we progress in our planning, and hopefully we'll be able to synchronize our mods or even work together.
