XenoTheory12
So I've been trying to create a new intro video, I've edited it and exported the video. However when I try to convert it to a bik video file, RADvideo brings up an error, saying the video file is unable to be opened. I'm a bit stumped as I cannot add my replacement video to the game to check it, if I cannot convert it to a bik file. Any help would be appreciated. dubiousintent
Hmm. We haven't had that subject come up before: nothing on hand. A web search turned up the following, which should help narrow down the possibilities. Ref:* How do I replace the startup cinematics?* [FO4] Custom Video Files in Fallout 4, Getting Them To Work* [RELz] HD Intro Cinematic I pulled the following rough draft out of those posts (without editing to smooth out the flow: " I " is any of several original authors), but haven't actually tried any of it. --- Untest draft ---Going all the way back to "Morrowind", "BIK" file extensions are "Bink" format files. The tool RAD Video Tools can convert an MP4 format into this one. I think vanilla has to be 640x480. MCP has an option for "hi-def cutscene support" to let you go up to 2048x1024 though. The final resolutions are:4:3 960x72016:9 1280x72016:10 1152x720I would like to have included 1080p versions for playback in Morrowind, but RADTools (makers of the Bink codec) state that 1280x720 is the highest recommended resolution for in-game playback. A 1080p version of the video can be The video is created and exported as an avi with"* H264 (Native) Video Compressor* MP3 (Native) Sound Compressor* 44100 Hz, 192 kbps, StereoThen made into an MP4. (The author used OnLineVideoConverter (default settings, tried non-mp4s and didn't work).)The sound can be tricky sometimes.* Firstly you need to have a .wav file of just the audio of your video file. Use audacity or whatever, it doesn't matter. Save that in the same directory as the video file you have for f4.* Open Radtools and select the video file you have. Hit "mix in sound" and select the .wav file you made. Now before you hit Convert or whatever (I'm away from my pc right now), there is a blank box for "channel". A .bik file can utilize many channels. I think the box is empty by default, so make sure to type in "1".*: Note that this isn't referring to channels as mono or stereo sound, it's referring to the total number of audio streams.* So, once it's labelled as channel 1, hit convert. Now load up the game and try again.-- End of draft --- Do let us know what finally works and I'll add it to the wiki. -Dubious-
XenoTheory12
I've managed to get past the error problem. It needed to install Quicktime 7. However after I installed that, and tried again now it keeps giving me a bik.tmp file rather than a proper compressed bik file.
dubiousintent
That sounds like the process failed to finish properly. * Is that "tmp" file greater than size zero?* Did you try changing the ".tmp" extension to ".bik" and see if it will play?* Is there any sort of log file from the "Rad Video" program?* Is there any Windows Eventlog "Application" or "System" error associated with the time it was running?* Are there any other "pre-requisites" than Quicktime required? A quick search turned up the "Rad Video FAQ" and "Converting Media Files" pages, but no specific mention of the "tmp" file except indirectly that it might be either an output of the video or the sound conversion. Basic things to check (often overlooked in the moment) are:* sufficient free disk space?* not located in a "protected system area" such as "C:\Program Files" folder tree?* the account running the process (likely "Batch" if not the user) has sufficient privileges in that folder? -Dubious- Edited June 10, 2020 by dubiousintent
XenoTheory12
I'll run as administraor and check the batch before attempting to bik it again.
XenoTheory12
Output file error: Binkc FNVIntro.avi FNVIntro.bik /v100 /d0 /m3.0 /o /l0 /p8 /b16 /c2 When I checked the batch, this is what came up as the error when I hit the start tab within Batch. Not sure what it means other than that it's an error and creates the .bik.tmp file. When I rename the file extension to a bik, it turns it into a bik however it won't open on any editing software, unlike the rest of the true biks from the game files
dubiousintent
Renaming the "tmp" file was a long shot at best. Based entirely upon experience with error messages in general (meaning "my best guess"), I interpret that to:"Error converting FNVIntro.avi into FNVIntro.bik by process Binkc with parameters /v100 /d0 /m3.0 /o /l0 /p8 /b16 /c2". My guess would be your AVI file is not compatible in some regard with one or more of the parameters listed (which are assumed by the conversion process). There should be documentation regarding what those parameters mean. I would redo the AVI to match what Rad Video is expecting as those output parameters are most probably what is required by the game. -Dubious- Edited June 11, 2020 by dubiousintent
