EliteDeathSkull
Hello, guys, I am new to the Nexus forums, however I wanted to know something: Are the shouts the dragons use in combat tied with magicka? For example, if one were to use sparks on the dragon, would it drain it of it's ability to use their breath attacks? Or is it similar to the Dragonborn's cooldown time? EliteDeathSkull
shouts and powers don't use magicka. So what you are saying is that dragon breath attacks do not use magicka, and the "sparks" spell would have no effect on the dragon's ability to use their dragon breaths? (I understand that powers and shouts don't use magicka, I was just wondering if the same applied for dragons, or if there was some other gage to determine how often they can use their shouts)

Dragons don't use Magicka to use their breaths... they are just talking... They shout words of power, it is natural to them...
kradus
Their shouts have a 5 second cooldown, they can only do 1 at a time.
luzburg
Doesn't use magicka but I'm pretty sure its called a form of magic in game books.
sgman1
Actually, game mechanics wise, the dragons do indeed use magicka for their shouts. Just try this trick: get the master destruction lightning spell, get destruction gear that reduces cost of destruction spells to 0 (or use god mode;tgm), find a strong dragon (ancient/master/whatever), keep blasting him with that spell indefinitely. You'll observe that if you managed to pin the dragon with the spell the whole time the dragon won't be able to use a single shout. Especially when it's on the ground trying to breath out fire/frost at you constantly, it will open it's mouth several times but nothing will come out. Lore wise though, I'd think it separate from the magicka reserve and for the player it is also separate in game.
kradus
I've handled dragon shouts in the CK and the only requirement was the cool down timer, not magika. But yes, it's still considered magic/magical damage, as are all kinds of elemental damage. Only it doesn't require magika to cast.
sgman1
So I don't understand what's going on when I'm barraging them with a constant lightning stream and they aren't able to shout at all the whole time?
BrettM
I've never tried the master-level spells on them. I do know that you can easily keep a dragon from shouting by having the Impact perk and dual-casting a lesser lightning spell, like Thunderbolt, because you can keep them stun-locked until they die.
