Crispyballz
The skyrim shadows has always been horrible. They are those even for heavy modders with good gaming computers. Horrible, I know. I'm not great with computers myself but since other games can manage this shouldn't Bethesda too? But I guess this is the prize we will have to pay for having far render distance... Anyways, here's a link to a mod you can use to set up the shadows to high quality.. I set it up to medium even though my computer is above average gaming comp. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/283 Oh and btw, it has a huge impact on your FPS. Rennn
For some people, shadows above 4k just look like 1k in the game. I don't know why. Try setting 4k shadows, just to see if there's any difference. I know if I force 8k shadows they look worse than 4k. Also, a shadow distance of 1000 looks ridiculously bad since all your shadows disappear past 1000 units. I keep mine at 10,000. The average is 6000-8000. ENB mods can filter your shadows and make them look better. You may want to try that. Edited January 8, 2013 by Rennn
fmcdougal
Since this shows up early in google when searching "iShadowMapResolutionPrimary"...FYI for you searchers iShadowMapResolutionPrimary/Secondary appear to be for times when multiple lights are creating shadows at once (discovered through experimentation). Does not seem to override iShadowMapResolution, but if you find yourself getting performance drops indoors (especially in rooms with multiple light sources) try lowering iShadowMapResolutionSecondary.
