Skyrim Stutters

Hello everyone! I recently began playing Skyrim again after a long break and did a fresh install on my new rig. Now I had downloaded some HD texture mods and a handful of armor and weapons mods so I could enjoy the game and found that Skyrim would randomly stutter for 2-5 seconds randomly for no reason. Even when just idling my character. I thought the first thing to try would be to disable mods and one by one I turned them off until I had disabled them all and to no avail my Skyrim still stutters. The only thing I can think of is it could be something to do with my CPU spiking from 1-2% to around 40-50% randomly and then falling back down. Any advice?

Here are my specs

Tower: Antec 1200 Case

Processor: I7 3770k 3.9ghz (4 Cores)

Motherboard: Intel Extreme Series Dz77RE-75k

Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 FTW

RAM: 8GB of Gskill Ripjaw 2400mhz

PSU: Kingwin Mach1 1000W

Intel SSD 520 Series 180GB

Western Digital 1TB HDD

As far as I know, this is a fairly typical performance issue on Skyrim's part. I get stutters here and there, too, and it often seems quite random. Initially I thought it was because I had way too many mods enabled (which I did - around 200. o_O), and while cutting down on my active list helped, it didn't completely alleviate the issues. I get solid performance in almost every interior location (anywhere from 40-60 FPS), but outdoor locales are a bit unpredictable, performance-wise. I can be running along without any issue one moment, and then get struck by stutters and drops a moment later. It's annoying, but it usually sorts itself out.

The problem's definitely not your specs. I just recently got a new graphics card and decided to get into PC gaming; my computer's 3-4 years old, and wasn't purchased with gaming in mind at the time. I only have 3 GB of ram at the moment, though I'll upgrade to the paltry maximum of 4 that my AMD Athlon x2 maxes out at soon enough. But, to my surprise, I can still run Skyrim on very high settings with HD texture mods, graphical mods, etc. Your PC's more than up to the challenge. Optimization with Skyrim just seems to be a hassle.

I tried downloading something called the TESV Acceleration Layer, which I had heard was supposed to greatly increase performance. I thought I noticed a boost in my performance after implementing it, but I dunno. I just looked it up again and it seems to have been discontinued some time ago. I did come across similar mods designed to optimize and boost performance and stability, which you might want to check out. I'll likely give them a download myself.

I haven't used any of these personally, so I can't vouch for them, but hopefully they'll prove helpful. :D

Well its better than sitting here doing nothing. I got so excited too. I finally got skyrim to look gorgeous with all these mods which my first play through I had completely ignored and now I can't even play it without huge stutters everywhere once every 30 seconds or so. I'll go ahead and try these now to see if they help alleviate that problem thanks!

Yeah I seriously have absolutely no idea whats causing it but it just stuttered and then CTD'd. Whats interesting though is that every time I run an integrity check on it it replaces the INI because it asks for my video settings every time I load up a game. ?

I tried disabling all mods but the performance mods and even an attempt with every single mod disabled even DLC and I even tried to start a completely new game and every time it would stutter.... sigh. So its pretty evident this isn't a mod problem.

Framerate caps can cause this issue. They're supposed to prevent it, but oddly enough they also cause it for some people. If you use ENB, make sure the included framerate limiter is turned off. Also, make sure you're not forcing a framerate cap or vsync in your video card drivers. Skyrim's touchy about this kind of thing, and you should really only use Skyrim's internal vsync. Well I just checked and ipresentinterval is set to 0 and I checked EVGA Precision's frame rate limiter is also turned off so doesn't look like its the cause of this problem.

Now whenever it stutters it freezes up for a good 5-10 seconds and then CTD's
