Deciphering Papyrus Error Log

Okay.

 

So I have a s*** load of mods. Not going to try and hide that. I have sorted them into a nice load order and everything worked fine, until recently when I downloaded around 7 more mods. These included Ace, Moonpath, CCO, Scenic Carriages etc etc. Once I did this, I started experiencing some odd events. First the statue of Alternative Starting Area's disappeared from the starting room. I fixed that by changing the load order of it and CCO. Then when I started up the normal tutorial around where Alduin starts firing flames all over everyone like a crazy monkey, the game suddenly crashes. I tested this several times and it continues to crash in the same spot, just after exiting the flaming building and finding Hadvar saving a child like the milk drinker he is. I disabled the newly acquired mods and it still does the same thing. I disabled most of the mods except a few to keep the save actually loadable, and same issue still popped up.

 

So I've enabled logging, and here's the result. I'm seeing and interesting looking reference to zblood which I've seen in other logs...

Okay, so it's not zblood, as I'm crashing before that now. I think the issue might be footprints.esp. Though i'm loathe to load up a new save to try it without footprints. As my currently save dies if I try to load without footprints.esp.

zblood is from Crimson Tide and is known to cause CTDs sometimes. Moonpath is also known to cause issues (including CTDs) all over Skyrim and it's generally recommended to only run it while you're playing it's content and then disable it when you're done.

 

Unless you altered Misc.bsa or one of the DLC .bsa's, the vanilla scripts are unchanged.

 

The error from Footprints about Hearthfires.esm missing can be ignored.

 

Same goes for the errors from Wet and Cold about missing files.

 

Basically, the only thing that log tells me is that you've uninstalled some mods that had scripts but this is very unlikely to cause major issues. You can always start a new game to rule these out.

 

Crashing during Helgen with lots of mods installed is pretty common and is generally not caused by any specific mod. It's often advised to run as few mods as possible until you get out of the tutorial cave and into the wilderness.

Whatever mod is in the 2F spot of your load order appears to have scripts attached to Null Forms. This could prevent these scripts from working properly and you should probably notify the mod's author. I doubt this is causing major problems outside of PineWatch though.

I agree with Mshoap above. Another problem you have is the mods you listed as having just intalled are all very "game changing mod" as in they add a lot of stuff that can easily mess up a game if not properly handled. Scenic Cairages can mess with npcs etc. Moonpath should never be active unless you are using it and then deactivated. ACE and CCO both change multiple things.

 

What is you load order?

Have you used Boss to sort that load order?

Do you use nexus mod manager or some other manager to install/uninstall your mods?

Do you have Wyre Bash or TESVedit?

With a huge load order, if you are using skytest, that does have problems with large load orders.

 

Also, the alternative start mod is a very touchy mod. This is especially true if you try to start the normal way and can wreck a game save if you try to do some quests in the wrong order. Before you reinstall the game, validate it with steam first. Some vanilla scripts can be affected by uninstall other mods that altered or removed them, so re-validating usually fixes this for me.

 

Finally, like you said you have a lot of mods. Some people think it is okay to install every mod out there and it will be fine as long as they don't conflict. The problem comes from that fact that there is a thing as to many mods. Installing mods just for the sake of installing a mod is not a good thing. Each mod should add something to the particular game you are playing. A classic example of this is armor mods (for the player only not npcs). Yeah the armour looks cool, but no player can use a dozen or so of those mods. Weed down you mod list by taking out things that if you were honest with yourself, you could live without. I am not saying it you have too, but you will find that you have fewer problems in the future with less mods installed. Even if they don't conflict, they can make a game bloated.

I used Boss to set up a load order, then shuffle it into appropriate parts. I'm an old hand at load orders from Morrowind and Oblivion, and have a bit of modding knowledge from NWN modding. I also used a tutorial from one of the threads. I forget which one exactly, sorry. The idea being that the stuff at the top gets overwritten by the stuff at the bottom, and patches for things should load straight after their main file. Thats my logic when building my load order anyway. My actual load order got changed when I tried to use a normal boss set up to see if it fixed it.

 

I don't have crimson tide. I have enhanced blood. Crimson tide is out of date from what I understand, and I noticed in the comments people complaining about numerous conflicts, so I stayed far away from it.

 

I use NMM. I used Wyre Bash to make a bash patch for my weapon/armor leveled lists. I don't use TESVedit because the readme recommends players don't do cleaning of other peoples mods, and rather the mod creators should be cleaning their mods.

I am using SkyTEST for the predator mod, it's worked pretty fine up till this point with everything else. It shouldn't cause any issues since it's just animal behavior scripts and textures which it replaces and nothing else I have does that. Moonpath seems to work fine, though I disable it to try and eliminate it as a cause, it didn't work. Alternative start has played friendly with everything but CCO to this point, so it would seem a little odd if it's a problem. I usually throw it up pretty high into the load order so anything else overwrites it.

 

Tutorial worked fine before i installed these mods. All the buggery happened at that point. Anyway I'm gonna try my reinstall now and I'll see how that goes.

Fixed my issue.

 

For future reference. I reinstalled and then deactivated every mod via the NMM. I installed the mods again, in the load order I wanted. I opened up wyre bash and created a bash file for my leveled lists. I managed to play through the entire tutorial without one crash using 90+ mods.

If you no longer have crashes, then that's great. What could have happened is that when you initially installed the mods, some of them may have overwritten something important from the other mods. A clean installation of all mods could fix these issues if you changed the install order as well as the load order.

By the way, while you have several mods, you had far less than I thought you had based on your earlier comments. When people say they have a ****load of mods, I think of well over 100 and closer to 200 lol.

200 mods is silly. Why would you need 200 mods? Unless your downloading things individually, in which case you'd be doing it wrong, since you can generally find packs which compile everything into one mod. This also makes it more stable.

I completely agree. I am always surprised when people say they are crashing and then list a massive load order lol.
