Crashing on Startup

Totally unable to play. Ultimate Edition New Vegas Crashes on startup, just as steam loads in the bottom right corner and before the Bethesda logo fully appears. One file always remains after steam validation, and is never fixed no matter how many clean installs I try.

This is what I end up seeing every time:

I am running Win7 with a GeForce GTX 460 and a Soundblaster Audigy. Runs GW2/Skyrim fine.

Compatibility Mode (XP2/XP3/Win7) did not work.

Running as Admin does not work.

dll solutions (dinput8 and d3d9) did not work.

Disabling Win7 gadgets did not work.

Disabling all DLCs did not work.

Enabling all DLCs did not work.

Nexus Mod: Mission Mojave bug fix pack does not work.

DirectX is up to date, did not work,

NVidia drivers are up to date. did.... not.... work.

The really frustrating part is the game not only works on my work computer, but my crappy 5 year old laptop.

Any suggestions welcome if there is something else I havn't tried.

CTD on startup is usually caused by missing/mis-ordered mods. Try verifying your local files, make sure your currently installed edition didn't get broken somewhere. Also just in case try disabling steam community.

Welp, this happened before I added any mods at all. In fact the only mods I added were an attempt to fix the crashing. I have since removed them at the crash happens at the exact same time, in the exact same way regardless.

Verifying the local files gives me a result of one file missing/broken, Steam attempts to download it (presumably) but it never is fixed (apparently). I also tried rolling back my Nvidia drivers which again, had no effect.

Disabling steam community I have not tried... I don't actually know how you do that but I will look into it.

In your library, right click fallout new vegas and select properties. Under the general tab, uncheck 'enable steam community in game'. Although with a missing/broken file I suspect that's the issue. Might want to Delete Local Content and do a reinstall. :/

Tried it, and sadly... no love. Then I tried (another) full uninstall of the game client, and reinstall. No change. I also tried a full clean sweep uninstall of all NVidia drivers and Direct X.

Its almost just vengeance fueling me now. I don't even want to play anymore now I am just determined to fix it for the sake of making it work. >: /
