CTDs with RaceMenu / Extended Slider Colors doesn't work

I've been slowly adding mods to the game with no actual save game to start off with. I will be starting this game fresh, and I've managed to get all mods working, save 2. Extended Slider Colors first and foremost, just does not seem to do anything, apparently conflicting with one or more mods in my setup and I can't determine which. I thought it was Character Creation Overhaul, but I've changed the load order all around and nothing has changed ESC to get it to work. I then turned off CCO, and ESC still doesn't seem to have an affect. As of this point, I can't seem to determine what causes the problem.

Secondly, I just found out about RaceMenu and would LOVE to have it working (as it looks like it will help me tweak the character to the exact look that I want), but with that enabled, Skyrim CTDs as soon as I attempt to start a new game (or load an existing one for that matter).

That being said, I am completely up to date on Skyrim. It's currently at version 1.8.151.0.7 which is the latest listed online. I do also have the latest listed version of SKSE, 1.6.5 rel 33, and I am starting the game with skse_launcher.exe

RND_ETaC-FAMP.esp

marriagedynamicoutfits.esp

RaceMenu.esp

RaceMenuPlugin.esp

As a matter of reference, I only have Alternate Start loading so that I can check functionality with the two mods. With RaceMenu active, it CTDs almost immediately after I try to start a new game (click New Game then click Yes). Without it, I can get in and play the game well, just cannot use Extended Slider Colors.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this and puzzle about it. Any and all help is appreciated.

1) You are using a number of 'give more stuff to NPCs' mods like 'Winter is Coming', 'Immersive Armor', 'Jaysus swords' NPC distribution plugin. You need a Bashed Patch to merge their leveled list edits, otherwise only one of those mods (the last one loaded) will distribute its items to NPCs properly. Wrye Bash isn't optional anymore for your load order, so don't think about it, just go download it.

2) The esp's not recognized by BOSS, you need to order them manually. The best way is to use TES5Edit to check these esp's against the other esp's in your load order, so you can see if there are conflicts between them. Then you can decide whether they should load before or after certain esp's in your load order (or if it doesn't matter), and either order them manually using your mod manager, or set custom rules using the BOSS Userlist Manager.

The creator of the racemenu made the colour extender to. She/he said that the colour extender is rather unstable. Given if you press "E" you get sliders, which are ten times better, I'd stick with that if I was you. Its more the number of colours your trying to load onto a brand new creation ui. It just doesn't like it. The included sliders in RaceMenu have the capacity to generate the exact same amount of colours, due to the hue and saturation sliders being included.

i'm working on the same problem atm. i think it's just a brand new SKSE update

"The Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE), Version 1.6.6 (or newer) is REQUIRED to run the RaceMenu."

I cannot believe I didn't realize I was on an older version - I've been reading and rereading racemenu and it didn't dawn on me... yeesh.

haven't tried any slider stuff yet, sorry

Apparently don't need the Extended Slider Colors because RaceMenu does the same thing without the need for huge palettes :)

I've often wondered if I needed to get into using Wrye Bash - it always seemed such a daunting task. Looking over the page for it, it seems somewhat easier than I imagined, and it doesn't seem to conflict with using NMM (which I'd always falsely assumed). This could be the start of a beautiful new era of good mod choices et al.

Thanks muchly.

Not so sure where to go with this - might just wait till some of the mods are more properly supported, but after the basic SKSE update fix, the game itself seems to otherwise work, I think my greater problem is, as you described, the different mods that have similar functions overriding each other. If/when I can figure out TES5Edit, I'll be looking into contacting BOSS - I'd love to help with their load orders, seeing as how they're over 3500 mods behind.

Also, if I *can* figure out TES5Edit, I do believe I shall get into modding, as the coding side of things seems the most daunting task for me. I do a LOT of dos batch scripting, but only because I've done it for years. Learning the commands of a new language might be fun, but it seems huge ATM.

But thank you for your suggestions, and your encouragement (or lack of "you're doing it wrong" mentality, I suppose). Now to tell myself I *NEED* to learn to use Wrye Bash before I really get into creating my character and playing the game.

Really can't tell you how incredibly easy it is to use the RaceMenu version - Thanks for pointing this out, as it makes the other mod completely pointless and redundant.

Now to get started making a character... no no I don't... I need to learn Wrye Bash first, then character creation!

Eh....you're thinking about it, which means you shouldn't think about it, and should just do it. :) Download TES5Edit and check out those renegade esp's. This will help get you started. You're going to have to clean esp's using TES5Edit when recommend by BOSS anyway. Once you get a better handle on reading esp records, you'll be able to make your own compatibility patches to merge conflicting records not covered by Bashed Patch, and truly resolve mod conflicts (which load order often won't do).
