7850 or 7870 Performance

When you ask for the FPS, do you mean with or without ENB?

Are you asking me or tyranny? If me, then I'd like to know with an ENB, as I plan to use one.

Btw, will the 2GBs of VRAM these cards have be enough for a ton of mods? I'm starting to see people saying that a heavily modded Skyrim can use 3GBs plus and that really sucks! I can't really move up to a 7950, otherwise I'll be saving up for two or three months and by then the 8000 cards will be on their way.

Well None1980, I am currently working on installing around 30 or so mods, and if you would like, I shall release the list of mods to you upon my conclusion of installing them. Once I finish installing them, I will tell you how my performance is before and after an ENB. Is there any particular ENB you have in mind? Or shall I choose one at mine own will? Also, please note that my processor is an AMD FX-4100 (4core), so depending on your processor, performance may vary.

That would be great! Thanks a lot! I have a few ENBs tracked right now, but I really have no idea, since I kinda need to play with them to see which one I like best, so just use which ever one you like personally. Ok, I'll be using an Intel Core i5 3570k quad-core, so it should be fairly equal.

I have been thinking of upgrading my processor, but I think that shall wait until late Summer, or next year even... But anyways, alright then. I might be able to get finished with it tonight, or tomorrow night.

I would wait if it's still working for you. Intel's new CPUs are coming out in June/July and AMD's likely won't be too much later.

But thanks! By the way, which XFX 7870 do you have? The core edition or the double-fan version? And do you have an overclock on it? I was actually looking to get either one of those 7870s or an MSI 7850, but I'm not sure yet.

i5 3570k rapes the fx-4100 ;p

There's no need to be rude. :P Plus, it's hardly the worst CPU out there. But yes, an i5 will out-benchmark an FX-4100 by a pretty decent amount.

Nah, not going to get a new CPU yet. Though I do like the specs of some of the Vishera line that AMD recently released. And my graphics card is the Double D. I have not yet tried overclocking it however.

Piledriver is a big improvement over Bulldozer, but, yeah, I'd still wait it out. Ok, thanks. I just found out that they have a new model of 7870 that snuck out last month that looked pretty cool, but it's lacking what would probably be the most important feature for Skyrim, more VRAM. Apparently they took a 7950, cut the VRAM down to 2GB and narrowed the memory bus to 256-bits. So I guess I'm back to the drawing board. I'll probably end up getting the same card you have.

Why would you upgrade the CPU? You ain't running a 7990, so your proccy is fine.

True, but Bulldozer does have some issues with single-threaded applications, games among them. But the performance boost isn't really worth it yet.
