Cannot travel from Solstheim to mainland

New game, chose the (paraphrasing) "washed ashore after shipwreck" scenario. Ended up being spawned in Solstheim.

Am using Alternate Start - Live Another Life (v4.1.3 fwiw)

Now I don't seem to be able to travel to the mainland by

  • ship
  • fast travel
  • using coc

Anyone know of any patches or ini file settings that might help, or you know an alternate way back? (I checked around for a mod like the Solstheim trapdoor one created for skyrim LE, but the one I found for Solstheim and SE appears to be a one way trip from mainland to Solstheim.

I can't progress with many of my quests due to the inability to travel there and would prefer not to have to start all over again, again.

Or do I have to complete something or another before I'm allowed? (ie like completing Miraac before MIraac is even assigned or assignable?) Really stumped here.

PS> I also created a new game that spawned me into the mainland world without issue, (3 times in fact) so the mainland doesn't seem to be "the problem"

I would recommend asking this in the mod's posts

the author is still very active and would know best

though I would recommend that you explain what you mean by "can't travel to mainland". explain what actually happens when you try to do so

also reading the sticky post, I would assume that COC wouldn't work due to the mod disabling some console commands, though I'm not exactly sure (Arthmoor, the mod author, would know best)

this could be an oversight with this scenario, or you do need to complete a quest before you are allowed to leave there

worst case scenario, just load the save before choosing that option, choose it again and hope you aren't spawned in the DLC again

Thanks for the suggestion, but Arthmoor blocked me last ?June?July? for suggesting that it was ok to use an underscore when naming a save file in a forum post, afaik completely unrelated to his mods, making it rather difficult to contact him or even to check the mod page to see if there is a patch or an update.

I'll try with it uninstalled and see how it goes.\

PS> By "can't travel to mainland", I mean that i'm presently marooned on Solstheim. There is no way off the island (at least by the means I'd normally use ship or fast-travel, or even trying to use coc) Or at least there doesn't seem to be a way off the island.

that is indeed an issue

I'm not sure what could be done about the block

maybe you could try contacting a moderator and ask them to contact Arthmoor on your behalf, and ask to unblock you

not sure if this is the correct way to handle this, but it's worth a try. worst case a moderator will know how to handle this

other than that, I still suggest using the save file before choosing the start option, and seeing if you can get a mainland start with that option, or to use a different option

should be far easier than fixing the one save file you have, if it really needs fixing (again, it might work if you proceed in the game to an extent, but I really have no way of knowing for sure)

FWIW... I've moved on and am no longer pursuing the Solstheim-spawned play vector and also dumped Arthmoor's Live another Life mod, because no matter where it spawned me, the game eventually CTD's inexplicably, so at least it won't happen again. Normal New-game worked like a charm.

I am curious about this one as I recently loaded up Live Another Life and set off a whole lot of new characters starting in different places to see how these starts would act out. One of these landed me in Solstheim in the same way as you. None of these has crashed and the one from the island has settled down on the mainland - I had to go there fairly soon as I like to have a home base to store all the stuff (usually Elysium to start with as it is convenient, compact yet comprehensive, and free).

So I think there must be something wrong with one of your mods or the way one is used. For example, Helgen Reborn must not be started until the alternative life part is finished. There are also mods against which there are warnings dotted about these posts but which are still popular. I have found it best to heed these warnings and ignore such mods even if they have upgrades that claim to solve the problems. There are some mods that cause difficulties in areas that seem to have no connection at all. Even with those there are oddities. I have one fairly advanced character who started with a faulty mod which I later removed but who still cannot do certain things because of a dialogue strain missing but seems to manage everything else without mishap.

Anselup,

Sorry can't help there. I removed Arthmoor's mod, since I was unable to use it at all, and removing it allowed me to at least start a new game and not be locked out of fast travel, or to CTD randomly on other new game attempts.

I can't/couldn't update it anyway, as I noted above, so I was running on a copy I had downloaded and installed back in the spring of 2019. It's possible that the code was patched or needed to be patched for 1.5.97/2.0.17 or ...well idk, something. Again, I have no way to check anyway, since I am blocked from viewing his content. But I do know that dumping it and performing a Fallrim tools cleanup afterwards to purge arthmoor's leftovers made it possible for me to play again. And in the end, that's what matters to me.

PS> I haven't installed Helgen reborn, so that wouldn't have had anything to do with it.
