Retexture mod - Please help!

A lot of corners are cut in Skyrim and items that were never intended to be made playable are odd.

Just poking around the Creation Kit looking at your source file I've noticed that Torygg's outfit is the item ClothesJarl03_var1 which uses the ArmorAddon YarlTorso03_var1AA. Opening this I notice that this outfit uses the Body, Forearms, Amulet, Ring and Calves slots.

Compare this to Leather Armor's ArmorAddon FullLeatherCuirassAA which only uses the Body, Forearm, and Calves slots.

This leads me to believe (though I've never made an armor with custom meshes, or know much about skeletons, bones, etc.) that the Jarl's armor mesh might cause a crash if you're wearing an amulet or ring. Have you tried getting fully 'nude' before donning the modified Torygg's outfit? Furthermore, I'm not sure it's as simple a matter of just deselecting the amulet and ring slots in the Creation Kit if that's what you did as well.

Anyway, my point is, Jarl's clothes are not like simple clothes in the Creation Kit or game logic. A more experienced armor modder might be able to tell you what steps you have to go through to make it like regular armor, but I believe that is where your problem lies.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had CTDs from bad nif files in the past. I had to completely recreate a few weapon nifs due to some unknown issue causing a CTD upon model load. I believe armors display their ground nif in the inventory/crafting menu model viewer. There may be a problem with the weighted-on-character-nif. If you made any changes to these nifs just completely recreate them, making the same changes as you did before.

OK I'll take a stab at this

I extracted the original mesh and texture. Both the textures and the mesh were renamed. I did the retexture and placed it in the proper folder.
I used Nifskope to change the texture folder path in the mesh file.
In the CK, I made the texture set, armor, armor-add on, crafting recipe and tempering recipe.
I double checked to make sure the meshes and textures were properly selected, evidenced by the outfit showing up properly in the render window.
In the armor record under keywords, I chose the proper options so the outfit isn't a vendor item and so it shows up in the proper tab of the crafting menu.

The outfit shows up in the game but equipping it causes a CTD.

Is it possible you only renamed one mesh? You needed to rename both the outfitm_var1_0.nif and the outfitm_var1_1.nif. However, you should have been able to give it a new form id and swap the texture sets in the CK without having to rename the nifs at all.
