Red Rocket Truck Stop

Does anyone have any successful settlements at the first Red Rocket Truck Stop? I always have a hard time making that location work as a settlement for one reason or another. It's handy having all the workbenches all there automatically but the space as a whole is pretty small.

If I ever settle Red Rocket it's for 2 reasons:

1) It's easily defensible - unlike the vast space of Sanctuary.

2) If I ever do the whole settlement thing then Red Rocket serves as the location I store and arms and ammunition (and manufacture ammunition) in mass quantities in the settlement chain - where every settlement tends to specialize in something.

 

The problem to me with Red Rocket is it's location. After the very earliest parts of the game there really is nothing happening in the game at that location (upper left quadrant of the map). So even if I did build it up, it's too far out of the way to go back there in most cases in Survival. I rarely do the whole Minutemen/Settlement meta game.

I usually reserve the Red Rocket for my companions base of operation. I've been thinking about changing that strategy to the New Rexford Hotel in Good Neighbor in a future playthrough.
