prensa
veng - Hello! I'll post an updated version of a guide I wrote on Merged Patches: A Merged Patch is handy if you are running lots of mods that add things to NPCs & traders etc (leveled lists). Any mod that adds things to the leveled lists can overwrite other mod's changes. Basic rule of thumb is, what's loaded last in your load order will dominate. A merged patch is an attempt to combine the properties of several mods & allow them to work together rather then overwrite each other's changes. For example, with a merged patch NPCs should use weapons from all your leveled list altering weapons mods & not just the last one loaded. It's an automated process so it's not 100% perfect but it's normally a very good thing. You need FO3 Edit: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/637 & a mod manager like Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) Or NMM: FOMM http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640 (traditional "Old FOMM" will be fine if you've not got New Vegas) NMM http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/modmanager/ 1 - Make sure all mods that you use are ticked in FOMM. 2 - Run FO3Edit, a list of all your mods will come up, click ok and wait 'till it's ready. 3 - Anywhere on the list of your Mods on the left, right click & select "Create Merged Patch".FO3 Edit will ask you to name it, I recommend you call it: Merged Patch Any name will do but it helps for clarity to keep it straight forward. 4 - Close FO3Edit, it will ask you if you want to save the changes & list "Merged Patch". Click OK. 5 - Open FOMM/NMM, tick Merged Patch & ensure it is at the very bottom of your load order. 6 - Thank your Gods for ElminsterAU & FO3Edit! (That's important!) Remember that every time you add a new mod you will have to delete your old Merged Patch & create a new one (That's why I always call it Merged Patch, Fallout 3 never thinks anything is missing that way). The process only takes a few minutes & can really help make numerous mods play nice together. Hope this helps! Prensa

7thsealord
One detail to add. Note that, for a small number of Mods, there are very specific instructions that they should NOT be part of any Merged Patch. If you don't have any of thse kinds of Mods (they are uncommon, but some are well-regarded), don't worry about it. # If you DO have any Mods like this, simply follow Prensa's instructions - but make sure those particular Mods remain unticked at every stage.# When you have finished, leave FOMM and then go back into it.# Tick those mods and move them down the bottom of Load Order below the Merged Patch.# Then you should be fine. ***** One other detail I just thought of. After playing for a while, and accumulating some Saved Games, you may find that some mods are not to your liking, or that you want to use some other mods as well. Happens all the time. * If so, save your game someplace (an interior cell is best) that you know will NOT be affected by the mod changes.* Leave the game, then make your changes.* Go back into that Saved Game.* Before doing absolutely ANYTHING else, wait for three (3) days.* Leave that interior, save game. Carry on playing. That three day wait is very important. Without it, you may have problems with stability and (especially) corrupted game saves. Most encounters and respawns run on a three day cycle, so this should be enoough time for enerything to settle. Good luck. Qualanqui
Or try Wrye Flash (http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/11336) it allows you to create a merged patch type "Bashed Patch". I have used it for ages, I simply use FOMM to install the mods BOSS to sort them and then create the bashed patch instead of wading through the merged patch rigmarole. steelserpent7
Starting Fallout 3 today, couldn't get it to work properly, figured since I finally did, I'd install some basic mods.Apparently merged patches are needed for FO3. :(Thanks a ton, Prensa! You rock dude.
AeroTheAirbender
Hi all. Since Prensa seems to be such a good helper. Could you help me out with an issue I'm having? Actually two, but the other one is something to well... you'll understand. First: I have/see invinsible weapons on both me, such as the gatling lasers and miniguns. Then I see invinsible weapons sometimes on enemies, aswell as on Sydney. Then a couple of times I've spotted npc's and enemies with invinsible bodies. Here's my load order. Tell me what's the problem. Which I guess is missing files and textures but I do not know the mod which is missing it! So tell me that. And anything else that can resolve this piece of sh#¤! acelogan
Whoa there, @AeroTheAirbender, just some friendly suggestions;first of all that's a long post and I'd suggest putting your Load Order into a "spoiler" tag, or using something like pastebin and posting a link here. Second, I would recommend not hijacking an unrelated thread for your issue; make a new thread and you're more likely to get someone to help. Good luck! @veng: There's also a really good guide about using xEDIT for merged patches on the S.T.E.P.
