G.E.C.K. Help, Form ID?

I've tried searching but Beth's forums don't allow 4-or-smaller-letter words in search box (so searching for Form ID is a little difficult) and searching on every other site I've been to gets me a whole lot of unrelated results so I'm gonna ask outright, looking like an idiot or not.

I made a new weapon in the G.E.C.K. and now I need to know if there's a way to change the FormID of the weapon from being the default 010000EA7 it starts at. Just don't see where that option is, if it's there.

So hopefully someone can help me out, and if you can I'll appreciate it a lot.

I think after you double click the item it will open a box then you click edit base and change the form ID at the top. Then you click OK and click yes if you want to make a new weapon or no if you want to edit every weapon of that kind in the game. I've only done that with copies of existing items, not entirely new ones though...

Ok, I was having the exact same problem. For testing, I disabled all of the other mods I had loaded and now it works fine. (With the 01000EA7 weapon that I was working on.)

Additionally, it will work with the other mods if you move it to the top of the mod load list. So in the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) drag it to the 2nd place on the list.

With the mod in the 3rd spot on the list (with another mod loading above it) it spawned with 050000EA7.

I was reading about Oblivion mods where it would change the first 2 numbers for mods to avoid conflicting with other mods, so people would specify the formID as xx0000EA7.

Well I know what the default FormID is, just didn't want it to be xx0000EA7, used FOMM to change the formid of the weapon I made after I got done. After searching for awhile I still never found anywhere in the G.E.C.K. to change the FormID.

And Hobo, only thing I saw to change at the top was the ReferenceID... unforunately not the same thing :wallbash:

I haven't been able to find anywhere you can manually change the FormID from the default in the GECK, however you can still use the Fallout Mod Manager and TESnip to manually change it like you would before we had the GECK. Just make your item in the GECK with the different settings etc. and once you have saved the plugin, open it in TESnip and alter the FormID and save the changes there. Once you've done this, the GECK will recognize this change the next time you open the plugin with it.

I wonder if Bethesda just forgot to include the FormID text box in the GUI or if it's intentional to give modders problems. :D

The FormID box is there, it's just hidden, you have to expand it, it's next to the EditorID box. Still can't change it though, and it's irrelevant because you need FO3Edit to see what the formid actually IS.

Eh? Really?

Anyway, if you hover over an item on the list it should display the FormID, I just couldn't find where to change it. :P

EDIT: ... Wait a minute I should go to bed, I can't read proper. Sorry about that.

The form ID is an automatic number generated as a place holder in fallout3's object database. It can not be changed, I was wondering why you wanted to change it?

The only answer I can guess is because of a conflict, in order to prevent these the engine allocates each mod a number as they are loaded.

Eg

Your mod '20'

Your item '00EB2'

These are then apended together to make the form ID for your new object in this example 2000EB2.

Unfortunatly the order the mods are loaded dictated it's number. So if you are trying to player.additem then just cycle through your numbers till you find the one given to your mod

Eg

2000EB2

3000EB2

4000EB2

It should not take you long to find it then you know what first digit to use for all your added items
