Modelling help - Armor

Yes, I know, there's a modelling tutorial stickied. It's for static objects, so it doesn't help me.

So yeah, like the title says, I'm having issues with custom armor. That is, I'm so rusty with nifskope and modding OB back in the day that I've forgotten all my little tricks, and it seems that FO3 engine updates and specifically armor models act differently from static objects or weapons.

I already made my custom model, it's basically tactical body armor that I designed over the "Merc Grunt Outfit" with 3ds max, and I tried exporting it to .OBJ and then importing them into nifskope with the default Grunt outfit. I've tried several approaches, two importing techniques being - clicking the model and importing to replace, and then I tried clicking the "scene root" node and imported the file attached to the scene root.

I tried to the best of my abilities to set up the ShaderTextureSet block for the vest and all, put it in the meshes folder and whatnot, and when I create my armor in GECK and try to choose the model, GECK comes up with this or another error with a different line number, and subsequently crashes on any clickable option.

So yeah, it doesn't work.... I tried also just attaching the default model to mine in 3ds and just dealing with the weird textures, and it actually goes into the game, however, some nasty stuff happens with animations that I can't even begin to describe.

Anyway, here's my nifskope window right now, maybe someone can pick out some dumb mistake I made or something.

Oh, and yes, I UV mapped and skinned the armor in 3ds max, so the vest itself has it's own texture.

I would really appreciate any help you guys could give, I know it is possible to edit the model of armor in FO3 because I have seen a select few mods with new models. And sorry if any of my sentences are confusing, I was up till 4 trying to figure this out... :thanks:
