Malcom86
Hi everyone, I need an advice: I wish to play Skyrim with a (enough) smooth pc. Actually I have: AC 500w (don't know the model), processor I5 2,8 ghz, ASUS 5450 1gb, 8gb ram, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, screen resolution I want 1920x1080. My mission is to take a better graphic card. I'm very interested to the Geforce 650 2gb...any advice ? Would it be good to play Skyrim ? I don't care to play Skyrim Ultra..perhaps High^^...anyway I would have a fluent gameplay with good textures and max LOD. No ENB, I don't like them at all. Please help me...I'm looking for a good economic/performance deal !! Any advice is welcome.
aerocool
Hi! 5450 vs 650 = 650 is far faster (3-5 times better?) 650 vs 5850 (my card) = 5850 better (50% faster) 650 may be good for High. I have a 5850 and can play vanilla Skyrim to 1080p and Ultra to 50fps more or less. And with 1080p + ugrids=7 + Textures HD (not the SkyrimHD Mod) + Lots of custom parametres in .ini I can play fluid to 30-50 fps in exterior, and +60fps in interior. Much better a gtx660 but is more expensive. 650 = 110€ (MSI)660 = 210€ (Gigabyte) Edited January 11, 2013 by aerocool
Malcom86
Nice and interesting advice, aerocool. Kudos and many thanks !! I would like to have some other advices from someone else, as it would help me deciding...210€ is still good if the video card is good as the 660. 5850 looks good too, but a little too expensive (230€).Anyone knows a better economic/performance deal ? aerocool
5850 is old, it is not in production, that price is very expensive today. Today it should cost 100€ If you want a good card for 2-3 years (may be more, depends on whether you like to play with all the detail), look for the gtx660. It is faster than my 5850 (30-50% in function of the game), and has 2GB Ram. The 660 is only a little slow than the old top gtx580 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/512?vs=660 I was planning to buy a gtx670 4GB for the Oblivion and Skyrim with Full HD Textures and ENB, but are very expensive (420€), I think better not, the game is fluid for me (no ENB) with my old card. I will wait. But you will notice a lot of graphic improvement with the 660 and will be able to modify the game with some MODs, and Nvidia has other functions out of games, some programs can make use of CUDA processors (ATI hasn´t it)Whith 650 you will play fluid too to Vanilla Skyrim but for future games may be slow card (1 year playing wel?) Before buy one card or other, see reviews. A good page of Mods is http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/ PD: maybe a core i5 2.8GHz is something limited for a medium-high card. You can try a little overclocking to 3.2GHz (I have my old Q6600 2.4GHz to 3.4GHz) But you will notice a lot of graphic improvement with a new card. ^^ Edited January 12, 2013 by aerocool
SpiderAkira
I would personally recommend the GTX 660 2gb even for its demanding price it well worth it. I have one and I am so happy with it. And the good thing about Nvidia (I'm not sure about other graphics cards) is that it comes with a handy program in the control panel, Hardware, Nvidia, Manage 3D settings (for every 3D game you have) With the 660 you can enjoy vanilla skyrim on ultra ( me on the other I use a ton of graphical mods + everything maxed out in nvidias tool with at the cost of 10-15 frames from 60fps is no biggy to me. But at any time I could alter the setting through Nvidia to go back to 60fps witch is what I love, an there really is no change in texture. It's the ENB settings I have lol With Nvidias tool and with carefull reading you can Run skyrim like the devleopers do with ultra set and FXAA + everything maxed in Nvidias setting to have a beautiful skyrim with out hardly any mods. Have set to maximum performance Or a mix of both (witch is what I do) That's just in my opinion the graphics card I would go with but if money is a factor you can get 650 and still play on ultra with mods and turn on maximum performance with Nvidias tool. But the 650s gpu is not going to handle the maxed LOD as smooth as 660. I also have a i7 and yours is i5 that could be a factor. Other tips Always update to the latest driverClean out the driver using a pc tool that's not suspicious Clean temp storage I hope this may of helped in your choice again it's just my opinion hehe yours to decide Happy spending and enjoy!!! Malcom86
Thanks both, I appreciated and given kudos. Just to let you know, my final decision is I'll look for the Geforce 660. If i can't find it at a reasonable cost (to me), I'll take the 650. I really like what I read on benchmarks, tom's hardware reviews and other stuffs about these video cards. Both cards. Really thank you !!
