SE Racemenu not opening/working

I've tried many different solutions from other forums where it was solved but they didn't work here. Racemenu seems to install but using showracemenu only brings up the old classic menu. Have made sure SKSE is correct version, tried enabling one .esp at a time, and have a clean Skyrim install, only SkyUI and SKSE. Tried both Vortex and MO2. If anyone could help, thanks!

Hi JMANDMAN12,

is Racemenu selected (ticked) in the game mod engine (Main Menu -> Mods -> Load order) ?

Just checked that and it was not ticked, but still doesn't work. Showracemenu brings up the regular classic one.

Now SkyUI doesn't work either

Is Racemenu being loaded after SkyUI?

(in Main Menu -> Mods -> Load order

and

in the file Plugins.txt which is typically located in Local Settings\Application Data\Skyrim Special Edition ?)

Edit:

Is your game LE or SE?

Edit2:

Considering that you used different mod managers, it makes sense to find all instances of the file Plugins.txt - searching this name in the whole disk - and to compare them. E.g., there may be one in AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\profiles etc.

I have SE. Also found out I still have FNIS installed, should I try uninstalling it?

Vortex plugins.txt says # Automatically generated by Vortex

*SkyUI_SE.esp

*RaceMenu.esp

*RaceMenuPlugin.esp

*FNIS.esp

The other plugins.txt in local settings says # This file is used by Skyrim to keep track of your downloaded content.

# Please do not modify this file.

*FNIS.esp

In the in-game mod menu, racemenu is loading before SkyUI in the list but I can't get the list to move the order. As soon as I click done it moves right back and doesn't change any order.

Last year, when I was beginning to play in SE, I met a very similar problem with the pair SkyUI/Racemenu. It resolved so quickly that I don't remember how exactly  ; Racemenu loading after SkyUI is one thing that I do remember (and see now in my order). So, AFAIK, we need to exclude Racemenu loading before SkyUI as the cause of the problem. I recommend to:

1) make a backup of the Skyrim's plugins.txt

2) make it equal to the Vortex's plugins.txt

3) launch the game, make sure that Racemenu is moved after SkyUI in Main Menu -> Mods -> Load order and that both - SkyUI and Racemenu - have been ticked by the game (if you have to tick there any of the installed mods manually, it is often a symptom of some problem)

I don't have FNIS installed; I think it can't affect the work of SkyUI and Racemenu.

Well after doing that, it won't even launch the game. Changed the Skyrim plugins back to only FNIS and then it starts...?

It should not be so. Different plugins.txt are not normal. Yes, please, rollback Skyrim plugins.txt as it was, and then, try to:

1) Uninstall (completely; not just disable) Racemenu, then SkyUI via Vortex --> Vortex plugins.txt should become equal to Skyrim one

2) Reinstall SkyUI via Vortex --> SkyUI should appear in Skyrim plugins.txt

3) Check that SkyUI is ticked and works

4) Reinstall Racemenu --> Racemenu should appear in Skyrim plugins.txt and Vortex plugins.txt should become equal again to Skyrim one

5) Check that Racemenu is ticked, loaded after SkyUI and works

6) If Racemenu is loaded before SkyUI again, try to move its plugin after SkyUI plugin in Vortex (Plugins -> Manage Rules)

That actually worked! Didn't have to do step 6. So far the menu seems to be there and SkyUI works too. Now I have UNP and other mods to install, racemenu was the base mod for all those I was trying to get to work! Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
