Maizena
Hey, Recently I've been thinking about this concept for a mod, but my own powers in regard to modding have gone fishing (in fact, they were never there). In this dream mod of mine, wands are required to cast spells, in the style of Harry Potter. I grow tired of just being a magical being in-game, I want some sort of vessel for it :P The mod would be, I guess, a complete overhaul of the way magic works in Skyrim, but I guess the Balanced Magic mod and similar mods could be compatible. Would work in this way: You draw your weapon (the wand), and while you have your wand drawn, you can cast your spell via the wand through using your regular hotkeys to choose which spell. I have no idea if this is possible without conflicting with the way swords and shields work currently. Perhaps if the wand sort of took a dominant position once drawn so that the hotkey system would recognise the wand or something. The mod could work similarly with staves, which are a bit of a bland experience in their current state. Mod would include: - Spell animations fitted to the wand (spells fired from the tip of the wand). - Different hand animations for casting spells/the old "swish 'n' flick" from Harry Potter, but in a few different variations. - A selection of Harry Potter spells to go with it. These spells would be ranked novice (the levitation spell, Wingardium Leviosa, for example) to Master (the Killing Curse/ Avada Kedavra). There are several spells from Harry Potter that I feel would fit in Skyrim without breaking immersion. - Voice acting for these Harry Potter spells would be awesome, but, I realise, difficult or time consuming to make. The silent casting perk would then have a real immersion-related impact on the player experience. - All the game's current spells would channel through the wands as well, and it could be such a blast if the actual magic system of the game was edited to such an extent as to make modded spell packages such as the Apocalypse spell package or Midas Magic rely on wands too. Bethesda's own selection of spells is tiny in comparison to the work of some modders. - Crafting of wands. Incorporated in the current Enchanting system so that the crafting of more powerful wands (with a bonus to one or more of various brands of magic, i.e. Destruction, Alteration etc.) is unlocked based on your Enchanting level. Bonuses could also include magicka regen, flat magicka bonus and the like. Crafting materials get increasingly rarer as you create better wands. Skyrim already supplied the player with a ton of weirdo items, and most of these (saber cat eyes, horker tusks, bla bla bla) make perfect crafting materials for magic wands. :) Feel free to come up with more/different suggestions. I hope a good modder will take the challenge :P
Deleted1308005User
Not huge fan of Harry Potter stuff myself. But using staff as source of power sounds like great. I could believe it'd take some scripting to do that. However, maybe so that staves have different "Enchantments" on them? For example, illusion staves would boost illusion spells slightly. More powerful illusion staff boosts more and so. With that base, Staff of Magnus could actually be powerful staff. Looking forward to something like this!
