MiiTins
As the title says. I'm working on some personal improvements to Mihail's Orca mod and I'm trying to find a way to get the creatures to float near the surface since he uses slaughterfish for the base of these creatures. The problem is that Slaughterfish have a pesky habit of staying at the very bottom of water sources. I have considered a few different routes to this but I'm new to modding and they all feel a bit over my head haha. The first method I considered was reapplying the models to a Horker skeleton. I know that does't quite make them float near the water, but it could still defeat the slaughterfish issue. My only worry is that they might then be able to scoot onto land or end up with those wonky land animations while underwater problem that horkers have. The other possibility I'm considering is trying to create a custom waterwalking effect but with the creature floating slightly less higher than the surface. Although i'm not even sure how to go about doing that.Another modder suggested changing the collisions slightly lower and using the vanilla WW effect. If anybody could offer some input or tips on how to go about this, that would be much appreciated! Edited June 24, 2020 by MiiTins
Hanaisse
I could be wrong but I don't see anything special about slaughterfish that forces them to stay near the bottom. They only do that because their AI package tells them to sandbox 'neareditorlocation256'. They are purposely placed low in the water and just can't go very far. If you place your new orcas at the waters surface, they should play there.
Tasheni
No, they don't. I use the Orcas for my own mod. I placed them at the surface, but because the navmesh lies deep on the seabottom, they lurk down there. When I get near, they come up and stay at the height I'm moving until I get out of the navmeshed cell, then they dive down again. So they depend on the navmesh. In shallow water, they are of course at the surface. My Orca packages allow moving around 10000. The same is with Seacows. Navmesh is on the ground, package is editor location 2000 and they are placed at the surface. They move down because of the navmesh and come up frequently for a moment and then dive down again.Solution would be to place navmesh at the height you want them to be.
