Brighid
I'll try. You have 9 balls. 8 of them have the same weight and the last one weights more. If you ONLY have a balance,, tell me how do you know wich ball is the one that weights more than the others with the minimum uses of the balance. I'll take a stab. Put 4 on each side of the balance.Remove 2 from each side. Toss aside the 2 from the higher side. If the balance is even, you know the heavier ball is one of the two you removed and retained. Toss aside the balls from the balance, and put one of the balls in your hand into each side of the balance. The lower side is the heavier ball. If the balance is not even, toss aside the balls in your hand, and the balls on the higher side of the balance. Put one of the balls in the lower side of the balance into each side. The lower side is your heavier ball. That's 3 moves. that's the best I could figure so far.
tyjet3
Here is my favorite riddle ever... A man is in a room pacing. After about one hour he picks up the phone and dials a number. When the person answers, the man hangs up the phone and goes to sleep... What happened and why? Ask yes or no questions only... I might start another thread cause this kind of like a twenty questions thing... let me know if i should...
Alexander the Great
He is an insomniac and he called a hypnotist to put him to sleep. Genius.
seregmegil
PLEASE, can this topic follow the same system the trivials have?. 1 - There will we only one riddle to be answered at a time2 - The one who asks is the one who sais who is correct and why.3 - The one who aswers correctly (and it's when the point 2 is completed) the riddle asks the next one. Many thanks ^^. And it can be done in few movements, bridgid ^^.
Malchik
Maybe put three balls in each side of the balance. If they balance throw them away and keep the remaining three. If they don't simply keep the three from the lower side. Put one ball (of the three) in each side of he balance. Bingo! Two weighings.

Malchik
I can't say I'm much good at riddles but try this. A friend comes to you with a problem. He is very devout and wishes to make a pilgrimage from the shrine of dusk at the bottom of Mount Jagganth to the shrine of dawn on top of the mountain. The pilgrimage requires him to leave the shrine of dusk at dawn, spend that night praying at the top at the shrine of dawn and to leave at dawn next day to return to the shrine of dusk before midnight. There is one narrow path and no other way up or down. To step off the path would pitch you down the mountain to certain death. The pilgrimage would be no problem except it has one condition. The pilgrim MUST NOT be at the same place on the path at the same time on the way up and on the way down. What would you advise the friend to do?
