Destroying a certain robot... (Spoilers contained within)

Alright, now that the GECK has been released, I feel like I can ask this question and get an accurate answer. I'm not what you'd call an experienced modder, particularly when it comes to Bethesda games. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I'm not a modder at all, considering the only mod I've ever worked on was one for Baldur's Gate 2, and I pretty much gave up on it after... creating the essential files. Before I continue, I should warn that there are spoilers ahead, so if you haven't finished the game, you might want to avert your eyes.

Anyway, I played through Fallout 3, and found it to be enjoyable enough. However, the end is just terrible, and incredibly anti-climactic. The fact that you don't have to lift a finger, except to punch in the code at the very end, once you've gone to the Enclave base is just ridiculous. Isn't one of the main focuses of the Fallout games that of survival? Surviving nuclear fallout, surviving harsh living conditions, surviving horrible beasties that try to rip you open and eat you from the inside out. I felt that Fallout 3 let this aspect get away from it a bit, what with being much too easy. So it's bewildering what Bethesda was thinking when they had the idea of adding a big hunking robot friend to the end of the game that kills absolutely everything in its path.

So, my aim is to fix this by having Liberty Prime blow up as soon as he is released into the wild. The scientists that were working on getting him working were worried that he wouldn't cope yet in a combat situation. Well, they were right (or, at least, hopefully will be). There are also a couple of other things to consider, namely how to get through those barriers that the Enclave like so much. This could be done with a simple, conveniently placed computer terminal (after all, that's how it worked in their own base), but I would like to offer multiple solutions to the problem. Also, this might make the endgame slightly too difficult. I'd say that's pretty unlikely, but thought I'd ask anyway. However, that can be sorted out after the main elements are added.

So, with the GECK, is all this possible? Also, where would be a good place to start to learn how to actually use the GECK? I am aware that tutorials for the GECK specifically are probably a bit scarce at the moment, but have heard that it is very similar to the Oblivion construction set. I would, of course, welcome any experienced modders that feel that they would be able to create this mod and would want to dedicate some of their time to build it.

I thought the fight with the robot was one of the best scenes. Granted they should have some more player combat after the robot was done, but it was just an awesome experience.

A mod idea that I would really like is to have another one of those robots somewhere and be able to fight it in a boss battle. Bring some mini-nukes :)

I admit when it first got powered up, I thought that it was fun to watch it blow everything up. But then that got old pretty quickly when I realised that I had nothing to do (which is just exacerbated by the fact that the robot is quite slow, so you've got to follow him round doing nothing for 10 or 15 minutes), and was actually already a bit bummed after that horrible dialogue with the president (the one where you can convince him to commit suicide by telling him he's naughty). So I tried to get stepped on, as Lyons (I think) had specifically warned me to watch out for, since I thought that would be interesting. I just got pushed out of the way. After that, I pretty much just hate the robot, and want it to die.

I agree, the ending was amazingly anti-climactic. I mean, Colonel Autumn is killable with on well aimed shot to the head or talked to and he walks away, then all you have to do is tell Sentinel Lyons to go kill herself or commit suicide. But you don't have to blow up the robit to make it better, just beef up Colonel Autumn and add like 6 or 8 more enclave soldiers. You could also nerf the robot so that you have more work to do. Although, watching LP blow to smitherines would be wicked awesome...

  • 1 month later...

To be honest, The robot always, ALWAYS glitches for me! he just stops walking at certain points and then will go the worong way. I remember, first time I finished I had to reload my saves around 7 times just to get the damn thing going where it should go!

I would like to see that male without a father blown to bits. Prehaps via means of an experimental MIRV? anyway, the end was very anti-climatic for me too.
