City of Scum

I was thinking it would be cool to have a small port town on an island off skyrims coast where bandits, thieves (including thieves guild members), pirates and criminals can go and be safe, drink, and stock up on supplies. a place where underground trading happens and theres almost always a bar fight in the local inn.

whenever you ask the jarl or an innkeeper for a bounty job, instead of automatically telling you where the bandit leader is, you can get the quest then have to ask around the criminal town, maybe a bandit or the innkeeper can say "yea he was here but he said he was leaving, i can tell you where he went...for a price" then your journal updates to the location of the bounty

or if your playing a bad character you can go there to sell stolen goods or sleep at the inn, but theres a chance some bandits or pirates will try to kill you.

Thanks! i was thinking, A corrupt town for bad characters? The possibilities are endless

some ideas like

-1 or 2 big pirate ships docked in the harbor, with an inn and some shops near by

-Instead of helping the people of skyrim, the jobs you pick up in "Port Amora" can include: murdering a citizen or steward, kidnapping, or instead of killing the escaped prisoner (companions quest) you get paid to kill the gaurds escorting him on the road and let the prisinor escape.

-Hiring bandits or corrupt gaurds that wont put a bounty on you if you commit a crime inside their city.

-Running into Maven or Brynolf conducting business, which is what he means when he says "I have important things to do" haha

-You can use ice water jetty to travel to either Castle Volkihar or Port Amora

I'm not a modder so i wouldnt be able to help at all except give ideas. I think it would be awesome to have a big mission like lately there have been people vanishing in the port and you have to find out who has been selling out your fellow....friends. Also there could be attacks by imperial or stormcloaks. since skyrim is in the north it would be cool if there were some viking ships. Maybe a mission to uncover a myth about the port that one at one point there was a very famous pirate who was richer then the gods, and the player uncovers it, the ideas are practically endless

City of Murder, Drugs, and Sex! WOW, the possibilities are ENDLESS.

I have decent level design ability (I've never released any of my bigger areas, but I have a few screenshots of them). However, I must dedicate my time to college. I'd happily donate ideas though!

Here's a couple:

The island could have rival factions (and a neutral faction, who are the few actual native townspeople), and the player is forced to join one side or the other, to survive. Or just clear out both the faction leaders and claim the island for his/her own (this should be insanely difficult)! The quest-line should revolve around the player's choice, and there should be a lot of inter-faction combat events :). As the player gains notoriety through completing quests and killing rival faction members, the other faction will try harder to have the player killed. Eventually, the player will help his/her faction rout the other faction off the island, and the player is elected the Bandit-King of Scum City! XD

Quest idea: The Fog - A mysterious, permanent fog envelops the island, and people have started disappearing. The player is hired to get to the bottom of it: clear out the source of the fog, and rescue the missing townfolk.

Quest: Extermination - Kill skeevers (which ignore people unless provoked) and collect their scalps for gold (You give them to one of the tavern cooks xD).

I like the fog idea, keeps the jarls from finding the port. I kind of pictured the whole thing like in star wars, the dragonborn sits down at the bar and a sweaty guy with a blind eye asks "what do you want to drink" then a bandit comes up and says "i dont like you, i have a dagger here with your name on it" you kill him, everyone stares at you then just goes back to what they were doing.

As for nobody knowing about the island... It could be that it used to be below the surface of the ocean, and Red Mountain's eruption triggered volcanic eruptions in the Sea of Ghosts and everywhere, incidentally causing the island to form. This is when the fog began forming around the island. It cooled quickly, although remained fairly active, and at about 4e 80-100, it was discovered by some bandit thugs. They were fleeing via boat from their boss, who they stole hundreds of diamonds from. They saw profit in the location of the island, and financed the building of a port and, of course, a tavern. The tavern attracted the scum of Skyrim and Morrowind (and where scum goes, skeevers and fleas follow), and a shanty of houses soon formed all around the small bay, but always the thickest around the filthy, skeever-infested tavern. At around 4e 190, a fight took place among the distinct "west" district (comprised of thugs, thieves, and cutthroats) and the "east" district (comprised of ragtag mercenaries, landlocked pirates, and, of course, thieves), and there has been constant bloodshed since (the two sides are equally matched, and if a leader dies another takes his place). The tavern is sort of a noncombat zone, but that is a fickle truce, at best.

I think you might want it to be a little more peaceful, perhaps not open hostility between the factions, but there are definitely tensions and undercurrents.

I'll probably eventually pick this idea up and slap some wings on it. I even started doodling a map of the island yesterday; I'm so busy with school, however, that I don't even really have time to doodle.

For now, I think this thread should be kept open, as a content ideas thread. We can keep coming up with ideas and jotting them down here. By the time I can actually begin work on it, I'd like it if the mod was close to 100% ready to be built.

Thanks for picking this up, im sure it will be really popular. I have a few ideas like seeing if Kristakahashi can move a few of his custom voiced npcs from his interesting npcs mod to the port.

The main bad guys can be the blood horkers from japhets folly that you kill, maybe using hothtropper44 seadog pirate armor, they hate you for killing some if their crew

Have some hammerfell mercenaries there asking about saadia

This is exciting
