Custom texture problem

Used nifskope to open the outfit.nif file for the tesla armor and read on the nifskope wiki that you apply a different texture by altering the NItexturingproperty node on the right parts of the mesh, on each NiTriShape node. Well, none of the mesh's nodes had the NItexturingproperty node, so I added it and changed the texture on each one to the custom texture from this mod:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=479

And yes, I'm sure it was the tesla texture, not the PA texture.

I did that for each node except for the meat head and meat neck nodes and then saved it. The textures I used are in Data/textures/armor/stealtharmor (stealtharmor is the item I'm working on) and I copied and pasted the tesla meshes to data/meshes/armor/stealtharmor.

I made the item in the GECK, and went to choose the biped model. In the browse window I selected outfit.nif and then the GECK crashed. I tried a bunch more times, and even applied the custom texture to the helmet and tried making the helmet; same thing happened. What am I doing wrong to cause the crashing?

What exactly is it you want to change on the Tesla armour?

If it's the base texture, I believe you need to change the path in the BSShaderPPLightingProperty -> BSShaderTextureSet and not rummage about with NItexturingproperty. At least that's what I change and it works like a charm... unless that isn't what you want to change and NItexturingproperty changes something else entirely like glow effects and whatnot. :s

It is the base texture I want to change... I tried the BSShaderPPLightingProperty but there's not a button to click to change it and when I double click the area next to that entry nothing happens so I don't know how to change that... The NITextuingProperty (seems to) do exactly what I want it to do, but I'm still having the crashing problems.

You need to enable "Block Details" from the View dropdown. There, in BSShaderPPLightingProperty you'll see a list of file paths to textures and you can change them.
