Bugfix/Error/Performance mods

Hope I'm posting this in the right forum.

O.K. then, here we go. It's out there somewhere but I can't find any relevant info [ to me ] by searching on my own.

What are the best CURRENT bug fix mods? The best CURRENT error correction mods? The best CURRENT performance mods?

Do these mods "fix" the same things? What can be used with what? Should I use a combination? What about compatibility issues?

I'm re-installing FNV and mods after a major system crash [ damn WinXP OS meltdown ].

I'd really like peoples opinions on the best CTD/crash/performance fixes to install to negate some of the problems I've had before.

I'm going to get a new computer, but that's probably months away, so for now I be using my 6-7 year old Talkie-Toaster-Oven, which has been upgraded somewhat.

I'm familiar with some of these mods, but want to know what's worked best for others.

My system specs;

Gateway GT5082 Tower w/ Win-XP [sP3] Media center edition-32 bit

AMD Athlon X64 3800+ dual core-2.0 Ghz, 2 x 512mb L2 cache, 2000 Mhz system bus

4.0 GB 333/400 Mhz DDR dual channel RAM

Nvidia GeForce 8600GT GPU w/ 512MB onboard memory

Foxconn C51GU01 motherboard

Updated and latest of NVSE, NVSR, 4GB enabler [NVSE ver.], also have NV Configator and Optimizer textures. I've got the tweak guides for Win-XP, Nvidia GeForce, and Fallout/NV, which I've used before.

The MAJOR mods I will be installing are; Classic Fallout Weapons-NV, AWOP w/ DLC, NV Interiors-Combo/AWOP, CotW-Enhanced, LCotW-Expansion, Shojo w/ AEV add-ons, Lings, FNV Enhanced Shaders lite and Advanced Recon mods. I will also install a few others, like quests, companions, spc. items/wpns., sounds/musics, some item textures, menu/screen replacers, and other small misc. mods.

So, whats the best or at least viable for me?

AWOP is awesome but badly optimized, it's probably always going to be a pain. As to the rest...

The only thing I use is Performance of the Gods and I've never noticed a difference in the gameplay, but I HAVE noticed that with it my game never drops below the framerate cap indoors, and almost never outdoors.

Also CASM is a huge bonus for overall game stability.

As far as 'bugfix' mods go...

I use only one, that I've written myself, to brute-force fix a very MINOR bug with the meters.

It's simply too easy when 'bugfixing' to break things worse, as I think the comments on the Mission Mojave thread will point out. None of the bugs that can be fixed by the community are particularly bad, anyway.

Lovely! Forgot to add in my post that I have CASM-MCM [love MCM, great mod] and have used it very successfully. CASM cut my CTD's/crashes to 10-20% the prior overall amount I was experiencing, the most notable being the near elimination of corrupted saves, for me anyway. [Referring to past FO3/FNV games I was playing]

Downloaded Performance Of The Gods a little while ago, but I haven't used it yet [wanted advice about the best, hence this post]. Will certainly give it a go.

Do you also "Tweak" your games ini's files, etc. in addition to using PotG, [ie like with NV Configator, or manually]?

What about "cleaning" mods, like Clean Up New Vegas, Clean Deluxe NV, or Cleaner Vegas, which are suppose to help with FPS?

Do they remove/disable things other than what PotG does? [it looks like they affect the same items, just less of them, or only 1-2 items].

I've also seen some comments about altering the NVSR ini file MaximumFPS = setting to a higher value. What's your take on that?

Will that negate the effect it's supposed to have on the game?

I've had issues with bug fixes, notably MMUE/MMUE POP, and if I don't need them, one less thing in my load order.

I'm about immersion, but performance is key to my game experience and happiness, so a little less reality won't bother me. It is a game after all, not real life. [although if I suddenly found myself ported into the Fallout world, well.....]

And again, Thx Xaranth, you are a tome of info and I enjoy reading your comments. Always helpful.

Most of those I don't have experience with, sorry.

As for INI tweaks, I've done a little bit, mostly increasing allowed buffers, upping havok thread count (I specced this computer with an eye towards compiling, so it's got a way higher thread count than the rest of the specs might suggest), and always by hand. Call me paranoid, but I don't like things going into my configuration that I don't know exactly what they did and how to revert.

Also tweaked the INI files so that I got more actor shadows, but that's for the sake of Clarissa's project and a performance killer not a booster.

Regarding the framerate cap for NVSR: If you can set it higher without killing performance, by all means do so, but not TOO high. One of the weird things about the gamebryo engine is that it actually runs at the speed of the visual drawing. IE, if you have 30 FPS, the engine runs that fast. If you have 240FPS, the engine runs THAT fast. Needless to say, that can be detrimental.

Regarding cleaning mods, my advice is try them and see, but make sure you can completely uninstall them.

Once more, THX Xaranth

I try to live by the code I state in my signature, and you help me achieve it every time I read your comments, so I kudo you again.

I know I'll have more questions [ receive 1 answer = more questions to ask ], so til next time.....

Edit- Ooops....went to give you a kudo pt. and ended up taking it away.....re-kudoed, hope you got it back. [only 1 kudo from 1 member to another, eh? No multiples allowed?]
