PlanetSlayer
My friend is a programmer, as the title says. He has the time and patience to make a mod and all the creativity within him to do amazing things with the CK. I'm wondering what inspired the modders of this wonderful community to get into modding. If there are any modders here who got into modding because of friends or family I would love to hear how they convinced/inspired you to become the modder you are today. This is so that I can help my friend discover modding. I don't think he has anything against mods and he likes Skyrim. So that's a start. One problem he might have would be dealing with the constant questions, people who do not read the readmes/mod pages, and troubleshooting (They go hand in hand , I know), because he generally does not enjoy talking to other people online. Is that reason enough not to bother to convince him into this? What do you think as a modder, is there hope for my friend to unlock his modding potential? How should I go about inspiring him? Xaranth
Find something in the game that really irritates him, an odd behavior that doesn't make sense to him, manual inventory sorting/storage, the AI doing stupid things, whatever. Find something that detracts from the game experience for him, then go through the CK with him and help him fix it so it behaves the way HE wants it to. Then point our that it probably bothers other people too, and he's written a well-designed and organized module to fix it and maybe he should share it? I can absolutely do that, solid advice. I'll do that and get back to you. Thankyou. Edit: Well I just talked to him and we've scheduled in a time to start on this. Went down better than I thought. Rooker75
I have something like 80 mods for Skyrim. Over half are things I did myself to change things that irritated me or that I thought could be done better. That's probably the best reason to get into modding games. I've shared a few of them on the Nexus. Not to scare anyone off, but massive numbers of comments can be tiresome and aggravating on mods that become wildly popular. He'll definitely need some patience.

PlanetSlayer
Thankyou guys! My friend and I have decided to make a dungeon, because he found that the vanilla dungeons got too repettitive. I concur with that however, it didn't bother me. Now we have something we can work on though and from my understanding house mods and dungeons are some of the easiest to make, or the best type of mods to start off with, am I right? We definitly want to create something that is different from vanilla dungeons, which would challenge the player mentally, have different pathways, ways to finish and maybe different challenges for different character builds. We've already discussed some ideas, that would help us do this.
Xaranth
Dungeons are good because they touch on pretty much all aspects of the game; you're certain to have to do some scripting, area-building, dialogue, AI packages, etc, etc, etc. But not likely anything too viciously complicated. jhncanson
Even if you he is already inspired and wants to mod.. if he has cheap HARDWARE.. it will never work out, so if he does have a cheap hardware... supply him with good hardwares that can handle the load. I heard the CK is very unstable.. using it on a average PC is not recommended.
OzmaHD
Speaking of modding, why not make our own DLC's
