anjenthedog
It's not a "big" change, but I recently installed a pair of mods called Random Emotions SSE and MFX Fix - Random Emotions Fix (The second file is obviously just a helper to support the first) This provides a modest amount of random expression to my players face. It's a welcome change from the effectively static blank stare she had before. It's purely cosmetic, but worth at least trying out (imo) You also might consider one of the "need" mods, that force you to find food, escape the cold, etc.

anjenthedog
Make sure to read the description. But in case you missed it, there are two hotkey combos and they're fixed (afaik cannot be remapped) shift-backspace turns it on and offshift-F10 pauses/unpauses the feature I don't think it can be configured.
