lazloarcadia
I'd love to see someone make a voice mod for MacCready's son Duncan. It would not have to be anything elaborate, I'm thinking a new child settler that shows up with a few lines of dialog (perhaps with some re-mixed dialog from MacCready acknowledging him) and MacCready asking you where you think he would be safe. Then you send him off to that settlement. Presumably this would also set MacCready default home as when he is not traveling with you. (AFT has this feature of setting the companions new home location)
Devilman1975
I think that would be difficult to do since there are only two models for child npcs. There's the model for baby Shaun then we got the one for the rest of the kids in the game that all seem to be near the age of ten. Duncan would most likely be a toddler. Fallout 4 is only set ten years after Fallout 3 in which MacCready was only twelve years old. Taking into consideration that MacCready left Little Lamplight when he turned sixteen then add a year or two working as a mercenary before he meets Lucy. Then we can add another year for Lucy to give birth to Duncan we can round Duncan's age to either three or four.
ImmortalAbsol
Would be cool but I agree it's more than unlikely.
lazloarcadia
So the mod would need to rescale the child (setscale .5 or something) and add in some custom voice lines? Honestly that part doesn't sound that hard.Maybe a small quest to have them reunite some place. MacCready is friends with Daisy in Goodneighbor who states at one point that she knows how to reach Duncan, so perhaps she could send for him and have him show up in Goodneighbor. Devilman1975
You can't just rescale a child npc and pass that off as a four year old. Kids that age act different to the ten year old child npcs in the game. Have you ever seen a four year old in a shop with their parents? They're always running amok. You would have to make new animations of them playing or have them crying every time a settlement gets attacked. If Bethesda could create a four year old npc they would have done so but they can't even make child npcs without looking like some kind of clone of each other. To be honest Macready having a son seemed to be a poorly written plot device. If he was looking for a cure for his kid then it would make more sense for MacCready to ask for assistance in going to Med-Tek upon hiring him instead of waiting for his affinity to reach a certain level or dealing with the Gunners. As a concerned father MacCready seems to have his priorities backwards.
lazloarcadia
@Devilman1975 Oh i'm not disagreeing with either point you bring up here. Bethesda's inclusion of MacCready's son definitely felt like an afterthought more so than it did anything else. And MacCready's seemingly backwards priorities as a parent could really only be described as "f*#@ed up" given the weeks or months of game time that could have reasonably passed before he even mentioned it. However this is more of a question of what it would take to make such a mod. I'm thinking a custom body scaling, perhaps a custom bed for the child to sleep in (to keep him from resizing all the time), and a few lines of custom voice work (ideally voiced by a child...such as my own 6yr old son). Given I'm not considering turning this into some major quest mod for how to be a good parent in a post-apocalypse Commonwealth I don't think it would really take THAT much work. ErikaEmber
I've really wanted it to be possible ever since I finished MacCready's quest. At the very least, I wanted to know if Duncan got the cure in time. But here's an idea: a special radio where you can talk to Duncan and a new character (the friend who is taking care of him). Not sure if it's possible to patch together a good reaction from Mac, but I like the idea of using the radio every now and then to check up on Duncan and hear the little toddler talk about his day.
