Modded install CTD

So, a few months back I started modding Skyrim SE and recently began playing for real finally!

It was going pretty fine for the first hour or two then it randomly crashed while in Helgen.

I booted the game back up and continued from last save, ctd during loading.

Try again, same thing happens. Tried with a previous save, same again.

Attempted again with a much farther behind save, it seems to work again.

The papyrus logs show some errors but I'm not sure how to read them much.

Also, I've made a bashed patch and auto-cleaned it with Wrye Bash. I'm not sure if that's something I should do though.

I do not understand what you mean by auto-clean with Wrye Bash. Are you sure you do not mean you used SSEEdits auto-clean feature? If this is the case you probably broke your game. I could be wrong as I have never heard of anyone cleaning a Bash patch. Why would you think that was necessary?

I would use LOOT to sort your load order, do not clean anything except the Update and three DLC files, if you feel you have to clean something. Then rebuild your Bash patch and start a new game. If you are lucky this will fix it, otherwise you may have to create a vanilla game and start from scratch, reinstalling all your mods etc.

The papyrus log will not help with finding the source of a crash, it is a modders tool to debug their mods I believe.

@wfandrews Sorry, yes I meant the auto-clean with SSEEdit, I've only used it for the update, DLC files, and recently the bashed patch. I did it on the bashed patch because I didn't really know better. Not sure if that would be the reason of the game crashing then.

I already use LOOT within Vortex.

Also, what do you mean re-install all the mods? How would auto-cleaning a bashed patch affect the mods directly? Kinda used to re-starting my save at this point lol so that's not really a problem yet.

For now I guess I'll try to just get rid of some mods and redo the bashed patch and not use the clean feature on it after.

Ok, you're using a bashed patch. Have you tried disabling it?

Many people seem to have problems when installing bashed patches. I don't use them myself, so I have no personal experience, just going on posts I read in the forums.

If rebuilding the patch does not work. If you played the game with that bashed patch and saved any errors very well could be baked into the save and rebuilding the patch and then loading that save will do you no good.

In my opinion your best bet is to start a new game with that mod load and a rebuilt patch. Whether using Vortex would make a difference I do not know as I do not use Vortex so I am not familiar with it at all.

Bashed patches can make a real difference in your game. For instance I play Legacy of the Dragon Born in both Legendary and SSE. I had a distinct difference between the two in the amount of cards I was getting, I would get about one card in SSE to every five or six in Legendary. I posted this in the LOTD SSE posts as a question. The answer I got from one of the LOTD team was that it was due to the difference between the bashed patches. I had created a bashed patch for SSE but only for the leveled list as I had read that was all that was necessary for SSE, teach me to believe everything I read. So I created a bashed patch for SSE using the same criteria I used for my Legendary patch and started a new game and this time I was getting about the same amount of cards in both games.

In no way am I saying that you should create a bashed patch. It is entirely up to the individual and I played SSE for a few years after it first came out without a bashed patch with only the usual problems.

Thanks for all the replies and help so far, really appreciated!

So, the situation for now is that I deleted the bashed patch, and redone it from scratch with no auto-clean this time. I will start a new game and test from there.

I just watched this video on how to do a merged patch with SSEEdit and bashed patch with Wrye Bash:

Is it necessary or recommended to do a merged patch with SSEEdit?

EDIT: Well I guess I can't do a merged patch, it says I have too many masters.
