Can't get replacement skins/meshes to work

I'm using the steam version.

created and edited archiveinvalidation.txt with the appropriate paths.

I couldn't find a fallout.ini to change bInvalidateOlderFiles, but there was a fallout_default.ini that had it, so I changed that. Just in case, I copied it and renamed it fallout.ini, so that might be the problem but I have no idea what else I could do.

Whenever I try to replace a skin/mesh, the game doesn't respond at all and makes no change. I've tried this with a number of them, and none of them have worked. I tried with all other mods off, on a clean install, no matter what I do, I can't get it to work. Has anyone experienced/remedied this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been banging my head against these same issues. I have tried

  • Using the GECK to take the new .dds files I've made and turn them into a texture set
  • using a texture replacement program to switch out the old texture for the ones created
  • prayer
  • using FO3Edit to switch in the new textures
  • making sure I generate mipmaps when I save the texture files
  • burnt offerings
  • adding all the new texture files to the ArchiveInvalidation.txt

when I do any of the above things, the model looks great in the GECK render window, but once I'm in game, it seems to just pick a random texture, this will then change depending on the angle of viewing to another random texture.

Any help that can be contributed would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get this mod out in time for the holidays (its a gift).

You need to change the bInvalidateOlderFiles in the FALLOUT.INI-file, wich is located here: My Documents/My Games/Fallout3

:)

And I'am using Steam too, so i can confirm that it works with it :P
