Disabling 2 mods causes CTD at startup

Hi all.

I have a sort of a mystery problem that I would like some qualified opinions on please.

For some time I've run with both Pure Waters and W.A.T.E.R simultaneously (yeah, yeah, I know... ).

The funny thing, now, is that if I disable the mods (using NMM) Skyrim won't launch at all, just crashes at the startup screen. So it's not due to some files missing for a save game. I guessed maybe the mods may have overwritten some of Skyrim's files, and did the "Verify Intergrity of Game Cache", but still no luck.

The funny thing is that if I enable either of the mods again the same happens, but if I enable both, it works (load order doesn't matter).

I'm just sort of curious on the matter, as I can't seem to understand why. It's not that it's a big problem, I wouldn't mind doing a clean install and I'm confident it would work again, I just want to understand what is going on here as it is over my head. Could anyone with some technical knowledge possible clarify?
