FlightlessBird
"That is what the bible clearly states. And that is the argument here. Jesus didn't promote love to people, he taught love to god, and god only." well put Tyjet. but you forgot something. According to the bible, God is omniscient (however thats spelled) meaning that God is in everyone. all peoples, all animals, the guys everywhere. And if jesus taught us to love god, then we must love everyone. if we dont, then we do not have a true love for god.
tyjet3
very true. So i guess in a very twisted way he taught loving the god within everyone else. Therefore leading to loving everyone... That's just vulking screwed up...
Darnoc
"Love the lord, your god, with all your heart, your soul and your reason. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is equal to it: Love your neighbour as you love yourself." (Mathew 22, 37-39) Jesus says that both things are equal, loving god and loving all the other humans. Paul even said that love is the fullfillement of the whole of god's law. "Then who loves the other has furfilled the law." (Romans 13, 8)
tyjet3
No, the ten commandments say that, not Jesus... This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is equal to it. How can the first commandment be the greatest and be equal to the second commandment?
Eiade
but the ten commandments are one of the most important documents in christiandom. the story is that god told moses the ten commandments. god and jesus are supposed to be pretty much the same person. Darnoc
@tyjet3 and Eiade: The greatest of all commandments is not included in the ten commandments. I you want to look for yourselfs: 2nd Moses 20 are the ten commandments. When you look at the passage I gave you in my last post, you will find what I have written. With first and second commandment is not meant that the first one is more important than the second one, first and second only refers to the order they are written in. They are both the same important (as Jesus said it and Paul later on explained in more detail, read Roman 13, 8-10). With greatest he also means the second one (or else he couldn't say that they are equal). The ten commandments are important, since they give a basis on how to live. But as Paul explained, it is not possible to furfill god's law and when you only break one of his laws, you have broken them all (Roman 7). The ten commandments are here to show us that we are wrongdoers, that is their purpose. As Paul said it himself, you can't know that you did something wrong when you don't know the law. That is why Jesus had to come in order to sacrifice himself for everything we did wrong, for every one of god's law we broke (or will break). The greatest law, the law of love, is the furfillement of all other laws. When you love every person, you will automatically furfill every law of god, because you do not want to do something wrong against anyone at all (logically). That is why Paul can say that "love is the furfillment of god's law".
