sammo11
I just got Windows 8 and hate it so I'm planning to reformat my PC altogether and go back to 7. I know I won't save much programs especially not Skyrim. Anyways I wanna know, if I just cut and paste my entire Skyrim programs folder along with the save folder in documents, NMM files, etc. onto a backup USB drive, if it will help keep all of my current ingame progressions? After upgrading to Windows 8 I had my files backed up in the windows.old folder and when I cut pasted all those files back, I was able to load Skyrim with my saves with the mods with no problem. I only had to load up steam for like a minute, I assume that since my Skyrim ran off Steam, it fixed some missing files for Skyrim that's not directly in the programs folder before it let me play. Will this process also help me recover after formatting? Does this also apply to my Fallout NV too?
SomeWelshGuy
If you backup everything, re-install Steam and Skyrim on your new installation and then replace all the files, things should work okay. The only issue you may have is with NMM and load order. But just make sure you install through Steam before replacing files.
