indianjohn
Im new to modding FO3,and have a whole bunch of ideas for retexturing some of the armor in-gameBut, I have yet to come across an adequate tutorial for how to properly insert textures onto .nif models using nifskope and the GECKI cant figure out how to properly use Nifskope for my custom textureWas needing help - maybe someone I could give the file to make a mod, for some credit? williamcash
I'm looking for something similar, trying to simply swap out game posters for some of my own. Using FO3 Archive, to pull nifs and .dds files, a DDS Converter to convert .dds files to .jpgs, modding in Photoshop and converting back to .dds files, placing back in Data directory. Then opening GECK, creating my own texture set, finding item (poster) I want to add new texture to, and editing with new texture set. The thing is the new texture seem to be much larger than the originals, you only see part of the picture (new textures) on the poster? I know this must be simple, but I'm missing something somewhere. I'm matching size for size with orginal posters 256x256. Any help or easy to understand tut for poster swap would be great. :thanks:P.S. also using ArchiveInvalidatedUnvalidated Mod (whatever its called). Several posters and pictures use different sections of the same texture file. For instance, the vault pictures vpicture01.nif, vpicture02.nif, and vpicture03.nif all use the same texture file vislandpicture01.dds. The posters do the same thing. If you are looking at a DDS that is just one picture, then you're probably looking at the menu picture DDS files and not the in-game picture DDS files. Applying a menu picture DDS to one of the in-game pictures or posters will only show part of the picture. Here is a picture to show you where to find and change NIF textures. Hope it helps. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/imageshare/images/446387-1229664493.jpg
williamcash
Thanks for taking the time for the help. I'll give this a shot tonight when I get home from work.
williamcash
Rekicker, if your still out there... "you da Man"... Worked like a charm. In my haste though, I didn't change (rename) ID at the right time and my new Poster went gobal lol. Being the perfectionist I am, and not knowing any other way, I just uninstalled game and reinstalled. Anyway everything is back to clean start, and now I know what to do, thanks to you. Again, You Da Man!
PerroLoco53218
Suppose that I want to globally change all the textures for the advertising posters found in various in game locations - like subway stations - or the hospital volunteer poster or say any of the adverts. I'm using DDS converter to look for these in my backup of the texture.bsa that I extracted to a resource folder using the Fallout3 BSA Extractor utility. So I have a folder tree for that archive that looks like this: http://www.perroloco.net/images/PSScreenies/DDSConv-1.jpg OK... so I edit this in PhotoShop to get whatever it is I want and then save it out to my ingame data folder using the original filename and the same path statement, as a DDS file using DTX5 compression with MIP maps toggled. http://www.perroloco.net/images/PSScreenies/PS-7.jpg Works fine... edited image shows up in the game as I intended... Problem: what is the default path to the ingame advertising posters? I really want to make these advertising posters more consistent with a dynamic post-apocalyptic society... I'm assuming that some individuals have set up light home based industry, breweries, distilleries, pre-packaged food - (RoachBurger Helper? anyone) & drug distribution as well as commercial slavery - so I want the in game advertising to reflect this. Thanks in advance. Perro
