Ok problem is this then ill go thru my steps: I'm going into 3ds Max 9 going to file>Import and trying to import the dartgun.nif and im getting a error that says this

"Import Error: Unknown object type encountered during file read: BSFadeNode

No objects were read successfully"

Ok that's all well and good I probly messed up somewhere i figure

I have nifskope 1.0.16

NifTools for 3ds Max 9 version 3.0.10 (I saw jaysus say somthing about exporter 3.1 I couldn't find on niftools)

Both of them are installed correctly

Can someone PLEASE help me out here? Tell me if i need to supply any more information on this but I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. :wallbash:

I'm not sure that Max can import .nif files directly, seeing that they hold much more information than just mesh, texture or animation.

When I need to import Vanilla models into Max, I always use the export function in NifSkope and export the .nif (or needed NiTriStrip or NiTriShape mesh) as .obj and haven't had trouble doing it yet. It does sometimes make the meshes a bit wonky and detaches a few vertexes from each other here and there, but overall it's worked fine for me.

I think they have to update the plugin so that it recognizes a .nif file associated with fallout3.

I just thought others didnt have any trouble with importing a fallout .nif file since I never read any complaints or similar errors, untill today :P

edit:

I just tryed exporting a .nif as a .obj, and when I load it in 3dmax it gives really bad geomotry, its still the same shape, but like 350vertices where the object could easily be made with 50 vertices
