Transferring Oblivion/MODS to a more powerful HDD

I'm not sure if anybody asked something like this before, but...

In the near future I might get a much more powerful and spacious hard-drive. My current hard-drive is not as powerful as I would like it to be and this is where I have Oblivion and about 70 MODS installed. It would be such a pain in the ass installing oblivion, followed by each mod one by one on the new and more spacious hard-drive.

So here's my question...

Can I just copy the whole Bethesda folder, which also contains Fallout 3, to the new hard-drive and expect everything to work as it would to the 100%, with all the MODS showing in the MOD manager too? Do I need to extract a portion of my registry and keep it safe so later I can just add it on the new hard-drive?

ps: Programs installed related to Oblivion shown in "Programs and Features" are as follows:

- Oblivion

- Oblivion BTmod 220

- Oblivion - Knights of the Nine

- Oblivion - Mahrunes Razor

- Oblivion mod manager 1.1.9

- Unofficial Oblivion Patch v2.2.0

- Unofficial Official Mods Patch v11

- Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch v1.2.0

I'm using and will again be using Vista x64 with all the user information as before.

Cheers for all the input. :thanks:

The good news is you can copy over everything except the game itself.

The bad news is you will have to reinstall the game to the new hard drive.

On your new HD, create a folder, call it Oblivion Backup. Copy in your /data folder and the c:\documents and settings .... Oblivion folder (that one has your saves and Oblivion.ini)

Now, if you want to keep the original for a while, rename the folder that it is in - rename the Bethesda Softworks folder to something like Old Bethesda. all of your games Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout3 will still be there and still playable from there if you need them. Also rename the files in the Documents and settings\....\games\Oblivion to something like \Games\old oblivion. Games old Fallout3 etc to keep the game from finding them and trying to use them.

Now, again using the original disk, reinstall the game. See special instructions for installing in Vista!

Before doing anything else, NO MODS, NO patches NO SI, start the game and make a save. Now install SI & Patches, again start and make a save - don't worry about the way it looks, that will be fixed when you put the original oblivion.ini back in.

Now, install OBSE and OBMM and Wrye Bash (if you use them) Start the game and test to make sure everything works, and again make a save.

After everything works, copy the original \data folder into the new Oblivion folder, and copy the original \Oblivion folder that you saved from the Old documents and settings into your new documents and settings\...\Oblivion be sure to replace the existing \Oblivion folder. By copying instead of moving you now have a backup if anything goes wrong.
