Skyrim hangs on loading screen when using carriage

I'm in Whiterun trying to catch the carriage to Solitude but the game just refuses to load. It tries. But after a short wait it seems like it just gives up. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing it. I'm playing a walk only play through and really don't want to make that hike again (technically I only need to get to Dragon Bridge, as I buy the white horse from More Stables there but I have a few other things to do while I'm in the area and I'd rather do those before going to Morthal otherwise I'd see if I could travel there instead).

The problem occurs every time I try to travel there without fail so there is definitely something causing it rather than just Skyrim being temperamental as it can be sometimes. If someone could take a look at my load order and/or papyrus log to see if they can trace the problem I'd be very grateful.

Looks like you had 'Scenic Carriages' in your load order at one point (that was an important piece of relevant information you didn't share, considering the nature of the bug...), and it's left orphan scripts in your save game. This typically occurs if the mod user did not follow the proper uninstallation method documented by the mod author which would stop the script from running.

Damn. I was worried about that. A friend of mine who I was telling about Scenic Carriages mentioned it when I was telling him today about my problem. I told him I'd followed the uninstallation instructions because I had. Or at least I thought I had. I must not have waited long enough for the scripts to terminate or maybe I missed a step. I was so sure that wouldn't have been an issue because I removed that mod so long ago. But now that I think about it, this is my first time actually trying to use a carriage since. It must be that!

Is there a way I can get the script to terminate manually? If not would reinstalling it allow me to attempt to uninstall again? Or if I decide to keep it on, will that reset the script that's giving me issues? I took the mod off originally because it was making the game too unstable (every attempt ended in a crash somewhere along the way) but maybe it's become more stable since then.

Thanks for your help. I'll admit I got lost in the papyrus log, I couldn't figure out which way was up.

Only thing left might be to reinstall/uninstall. Try this:

- reinstall SC.

- play for a bit. use the carriages, make sure it's working again, kill some stuff, etc. (just don't try and uninstall as soon as you install it, play for 10 minutes or something).

- make a new save with the mod installed and the script active. quit game.

- restart game, load from the that save.

- initiate the stop script function and follow the uninstallation instructions to the letter (so if it says wait for a few real time minutes, go make tea or something).

This might fix it, or might not. The author says it's guaranteed to work only on clean saves (and your save is already 'dirty', unless you have one from before you installed SC). If you can get past the second step, then it's already good news. Otherwise....

It might not be guaranteed to work, but at least I have something I can try. If it works, great. If not, sure it'll suck losing all that progress, but it's my own fault. I'll try this out now and see if it works.

Thanks again, you've been a great help! I'm not sure if I can give kudos twice. But it's a different post so damn it, I'm gonna try! Aw. I can't. But you still deserve it.

ClimatesOfTamriel.esm

RevampedExteriorFog.esp <---Got a bad feeling about this with COL

Supreme Storms.esp

ImmersiveContentExteriorLighting.esp

randomthunder.esp

I think you need to check the compatability of these mods before investing more time into your game.

Just saying.

Sorry for the massive delay. Life came up.

Reinstalling SC didn't solve the issue. Although I haven't gotten around to uninstalling it, I don't hold out any hope.

I did notice a problem similar to what I've been getting. I didn't mention it in the first post, but before trying to load the game seems to just sit there and wait for the scripts to kick in. I'll just sit in the back of the carriage, my follower chatting away, thunder cracking in the background. this lasts 10-30 seconds before subtracting gold and fading to black. Then it's other wait before it attempts to load. THEN it crashes.

The similar problem I mentioned acts a lot like that, but has nothing to do with carriages. I happened last night (after I'd decided to just ignore carriages) when I tried to place Meridia's Beacon on the alter to start her quest. The delay was so huge I'd assumed it was broken and walked away. It started during dialogue with my follower I don't even know much much longer later.

So I think I'll have to write this save off. Which sucks because I was hoping to knock the MQ out before Dragonborn is released. But at this point it looks like the only option.

So next up is to look into the mods Gamefever mentioned to attempt to ensure a smooth playthrough on my next save.

Thanks guys for you help. It may not have worked. But I appreciate you guys trying none the less.
