Goodsprings/Mojace Outpost Crash

alfaz62

Recommended Posts

I have played the entirety of my playthrough without crashes. SInce i started playing, i've never taken an esp out of the loadorder. If i did, i rolled back saves to before it was installed. So was fairly confident in my ability to get a stable game.

Until now. For some reason my game has been consistently crashing. While moving along the road into goodsprings, teleporting into the outside cell, or opening a door into the outside cell, causesd my game to CTD or freeze up. I thought it was isolated to goodsprings because it is repeatable easily. Now on my way to the Old World Blues DLC, i crash on the road leading to the Mojave Outpost.

I've put a lot of time into this playthrough and would like to save it, even if it means rolling back saves. Alternatively i've been looking for a time to start New California so not the worst excuse.

I've un-updated any of the mods i've tampered with since my game stopped running w/o crashes, to test for culprits and iagnose, but to no avail.

Anytime the game "Crashes to the Desktop" (CTD) it's typically going to generate an error message in the Windows Eventlog. Please see the "Windows Error Messages" section of the wiki "How to read most Bethesda game error logs" article.

In general, if you haven't changed anything about your game and it suddenly stops working correctly you need to look to other causes: such as software updates to Windows, programming libraries such as ".Net", or hardware drivers. Older games eventually get dropped from product testing. It is also possible you are having problems with your hard drive. It never hurts to run "chkdsk" and an anti-virus scan.

FYI: If you recently had a Windows system update, you only have 10 days to revert to the previous version if you decide to choose that option.

You don't mention things that do not show up in the "load order", such as the version of Windows, if you are using a "Steam" or "GOG" and/or "regional language version" of the game (even if you are playing it in English); using the FNV4GB Patch, NVSE and it's related plugins; replacements for textures (specifically their larger image sizes: 1024x1024, etc.), animations, or "bodies", etc.; and "post-processors" like ENB or SweetFX. I agree that if you were not having problems with them previously, it is not likely they are suddenly causing a problem now, but when you have eliminated everything else ...

* Do you have "New Vegas Stutter Remover" (NVSR) installed? If so, please see the 'Issue: CTD after 10-20 minutes of play (post-Win10 2017 FCU)' and 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu' entries in the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. Note the default NVSR settings do not work with Win10, but there are some recommended by the author for Win10 further down in the article.

:* Currently, the recommended alternative to NVSR, if you are running Win7 or Win10, is to try using the "New Vegas Tick Fix (NVTF)" mod instead. However, until NVTF includes the option, you may want to continue to use NVSR for the "iThreadsFixedToCPUs" setting. However, use of NVSR along with NVTF is unsupported.

* Related to the NVSR problem, for problems AFTER a save game is loaded see also 'Issue: Incomplete save game load' in the "Troubleshooting" guide.

Recommend you work through the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article; and the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

* Please see the paragraph about "auto-saves" under the 'Essentials for Getting Started' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If you have been using the built-in "auto-save" feature and you get the endless "roulette wheel" when loading a save game, then your current save game file is corrupted and you will have to either go back to a save before the corruption occurred (hard to tell) or start over.

When you say you "un-updated" mods, did you "uninstall" them and then "verify local files" and re-install the prior versions or the equivalent to ensure any overwritten files were restored, and then toggle "ArchiveInvalidation" off-and-on again? Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' entry of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

thanks for the reply! this was super helpful! i'll try each of these out!!

-I am using NVSE, FNV4GB, No ENB, STeam Version, with the Tick Fix and NVAC.

-my textures are NMC/Poco.

I recently went from SLI to single card graphics and had to update those drivers.

Thank you for your help!
