Transition from VaultXXa.esp to VaultXX.b.esp ?

[solved] page 2.

If I want to travel from VaultXXa.esp to VaultXXb.esp would I set the VaultXXa.esp as the active file?

When I do this, opening VaultXXa.esp and VaultXXb.esp togather result is a duplicate file of

either VaultXXa.esp or VaultXXb.esp; OH, and it steels all my navmesh and puts them in the duplicate.

I've re-navmeshed area's several times because of this.

I haven't been successful as of yet to get the transportation to work.

Also, If I were successful. Then, Moving from VaultXXb.esp to VaultXXc.esp... would I then set VaultXXb.esp as active file? or so I do this using VaultXXa.esp as active file? I do have a successful transportation from the wasteland to the VaultXXa.esp btw.

Thanks anyone in advance.

if you can refine your question a bit i can probably help you out...

1. are you talking about in the editor or the game?

I want to travel from VaultXXa.esp to VaultXXb.esp would I set the VaultXXa.esp as the active file? (in the editor? in the game?)

I'm sorry, In the Editor.

I've been able to go between interior cells via console coc vault16a ... coc vault16b ect....

thanks for your help on the navmesh...

I'm not sure I fully understand what you want..but...

The console commands funtion the same whether interior or exterior..

in the editor the active .esp is always the one that will be saved to.. you can have others loaded but only the active one will keep changes (even if you make changes to the inactive .esp)

Now...if what you mean is how to load the exterior spaces.. switch the tab that says interiors to one of the exteriro spaces then double click a cell location...for example if you drop down the interior tab and go to the bottom you get the wasteland.. which will then list all wasteland exterior cells below that...click the one you want...

Sounds like you have 2 areas of a vault on separate esp files if its all the same mod rather than having the esp files labeled vaultXXa/b would have been better as a single esp.

What you can do is load vaultXXa as active and other as a source duplicate vaultXXb under interiors save then reload data with just vaultXXa.esp selected then rename the copy of vaultXXb under interiors then just set up a teleport between the connecting doors and any other doors that you may have connecting to outside sources.

The other esp can be either discarded or archived for future ref.

I have made a few assumptions hope I wasn't far wrong if I am I apologize now.

your assumptions are actually right on!

I actually have 5 .esp files.

I originally had them all in one .esp

however, the load, for such a collection, takes a good bit of time.

It's a massive vault. so I split them up, for loads sake.

So, to understand what your saying;

You think it's best to have all .esp files (or parts to the vault) in one .esp?;

each separated, by some space, then use the teleporter between the doors needed?

Is that correct? Loading time could be an issue./

I see the stock vaults use the manor of Vault87a, Vault87b and Vault87c.

But thier all in the Master file,....

No telling if they had to make separate .esp's for them.... I imagine they would have.

You think it's best to have all .esp files (or parts to the vault) in one .esp?; Yes

each separated, by some space, in there own interior area then use the teleporter between the doors needed? if you name the doors makes it easer to find them without a lot of chopping and changing between interior area's using the dropdowns

also remember that esps cant mod esps

i would think unless its a REALLY massive vault all in the same esp would make sense....

I imagine they used the .esp format to spread vault pieces around to different environment artists..or for differing stages

of development.. levels usually go through several stages of revision during the development process...

looking forward to your vault!

Thanks you guys, hopefully with this bit of information I will be able to get things moving along!

It's Vault 16 btw. I'll have more later.

EDIT:

Well that seems it would work on a smaller level.

I guess this one is just to big; The load time is to long.

I can't even load up the file to edit it.. It takes more than SEVERAL minutes.

I think I'll have to resolve teleporting between .esp files somehow..<?
