Crotexiphan
At the start of the game when you tell Jarl Balgruuf about the dragons my game CTDs when he says 'send a detachment to riverwood at once' or however the line goes. My game also CTDs at random times as well. Here is a list of the mods I use and the load order, if somethings are wrong could tell me? I am new to using mods. ripple
Can you replace that load order with your BOSS log (with the messages), and include a list of unrecognized plugins if BOSS generated one.
Crotexiphan
Changed the load order to my BOSS one and added unrecognised list.
ripple
BOSS has informed you of a number of issues with your load order, so you need to take care of them: 1) Cleaning: Some of your plugins need to be cleaned. Maybe you installed those mods after your last cleaning (I am assuming you have cleaned plugins with TES5Edit in the past since the other plugins that usually show up as containing 'dirty edits', like the DLC esm's, appear to be fine according to the log). 2)JSwords.esm ActiveWarning: Original file was released before the CK (07 Feb. 2012) a compatibility patch fixed and cleaned with TES5Edit can be obtained here. (Compatibility Patch) Make sure you have the updated fix patch for this plugin (error records can cause CTDs). 3) MoreSnowWindyand75percentLessView.espIncompatible with: All lighting mods.Contains dirty edits: 2 ITM, 0 UDR records. Needs TES5Edit cleaning. (http://www.creationkit.com/TES5Edit_Cleaning_Guide_-_TES5Edit) Lighting mods, this would included EnhancedLightsandFX.esp Active ...and any weather mods you might be running. So double check the records in TES5Edit to make sure there are no conflicts. 4) Birds.espIncompatible with: Heartfires DLC. Remove this and install BirdsHF.esp I get a bit 'snippy' if I suspect someone has not read a mod installation instruction carefully....here's another one: Alternate Start - Live Another Life.espRandom Alternate Start.esp ActiveIncompatible with: Alternate Start - Live Another Life.espRAS - Riverwood CharGen.esp ActiveIncompatible with: Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp Generally speaking, avoid using multiple mods that purportedly do the same thing or similar things. It's very likely they will conflict directly, even if not flagged by BOSS. 5)Headbomb's Better Sorting - Ammo.esp ActiveHeadbomb's Better Sorting - Books.esp ActiveHeadbomb's Better Sorting - Food (Normal Weight).esp ActiveHeadbomb's Better Sorting - Food (Reduced Weight).espWarning: Contains unexpected (or out of order) records. But really, I recommend replacing this with another sorting mod that does not contain error records. There must be at least a dozen sorting mods on the Nexus alone, most of which have been updated and do not require 'fix patches.' They are also really easy (albeit time consuming) to make in TES5Edit. 6) Unrecognised ModsInsanityMask.esp ActiveSLN_ElderScroll.esp ActiveTrue Bound Armors.esp ActiveDTHWerewolfUnique.esp ActiveOpenAllure.esp ActiveDemon wrath.esp Active Unless you've manually adjusted the load order position of these mods, right now they are loading at the end of your load order, after the compatibility patches (e.g. Bashed Patch). They absolutely cannot be allowed to do that. Their loading positions need to be adjusted based on if and how they conflict with the other plugins in your load order. The only reliable way to do this is to check them out in TES5Edit so you can see the esp records. After you decide where they should load based on the conflict records (if there are any), you can then use something like the 'BOSS Userlist Manager' to set custom rules for them, so their load order position will not be reset every time you run BOSS. If you are new to TES5Edit, and you just can't make heads or tails of it when looking at conflicts, post some screenshots and we can help. 7) If after doing the above things, you still CTD after Balgruuff tells Irileth tio send a detachment to Riverwood, try disabling your mods in groups, and repeat the process until you can identify which mod is responsible for causing the CTD during that quest stage. 8 ) Random CTDs: hard to track down. If you can find some patterns to them (mostly in the worldspace/outdoors? In interior cells? During combat? With followers? Etc.), it'd be easier. Some general suggestions: you are running a lot of mods with continually updating scripts (wet n cold, footprints, etc.). A couple of them should be fine, a lot of them will stress the game engine, no matter how powerful your CPU is (Skyrim only uses 2 cores at best anyway, and not very well at that), and make the game unstable. If you've made some ini edits, especially if based on suggestions from some of those 'Skyrim ini tweak guides' floating around on the interwebs, the edits might generate stability issues as well, depending on what edits of course. You might consider trimming your load order as a last resort. While Skyrim for PC is intended to be modded, it's very difficult to maintain long term stability for a heavily modded load order. I say 'as a last resort' because, if you didn't know already, uninstalled mods often leave orphan junk in the save game, which cannot be cleaned even after a cell reset (e.g. papyrus scripts). So uninstalling a lot of mods should generally be followed by starting a new game. Edited February 3, 2013 by ripple
Crotexiphan
OK thanks, I removed some mods that were incompatible and/or similar and now the BOSS log has no more errors. (Just wondering if "Bash Tag suggestion(s): {{BASH: Delev, Relev}}" is something I should fix or ignore it. All my mods are now clean and I will test it to see how it runs now. [Edit] After playing for a while the game played smoothly and only crashed a few times when I went into the river after getting the dragon stone, but I walked along the river and then when I crossed it again it didn't crash. I will play some more tomorrow but it seems to be working now, if I need more help I will post again. Thanks for the help. ripple
No problem. If you have both BOSS and Wrye Bash installed, the bash tags in the BOSS log require no user action other than verification in Wrye Bash that the esp's have indeed been tagged as specified, which should occur automatically the first time you run BOSS with Wrye Bash already installed (or maybe it's the other way around, can't remember....anyway, if you care to verify, highlight esp or esm in Wrye Bash, then look at the right bottom window). yars
So did you ever determine what mod was causing the CTD when in Dragon's Reach and he said "Send a detachment to Riverwood", because I too am having the same problem now and searching on the internet brought me to this thread. Any help you can provide would be greatly appriciated.
Celticwolf369
Hello, and here's my two cents worth of knowledge... I to am (was) having this issue and after several hours of reading and searching for a solution I have finally found one. I had recently read that the Rayeks End and Riversde Lodge mods, while they have been made to be compatible with each other, they are not compatible with each other during certain parts of the game i.e. "send a detachment to riverwood at once" and then CTD. After disabling one and then the other and then both at the same time, I was still getting the CTD. I have been disabling my mods in groups of 3-5 at a time for the better part of the day now and to make a really long trouble-shooting story short... If you are using the following mods: Grillis Home Riverwood; Better Villages; and Rayeks End + RiversideLodge, disable these and then reenable after the "send a detachment to riverwood at once" speech. Don't forget to remove anything that you might have in the homes. I myself may just leave these disabled from here on out, though they are among my favorites. And even though I do not know ripple, please read his/her post becasue it's full of sound advice and I am of a like mind when people don't RTFM! Thank you for reading this and luck to you! yars
Thanks so much man. I was using Rayeks End for a long while in the past, and just recently decided to use Riverside Lodge. I'm not too far into another playthrough and may just start over with just one of these. I don't uses the Riverwood home or Better Villages, so hopefully with just one of the other two player home mods it will be a little more stable. Thanks again. LittleFighter
Well would you adam and eve it. Disabling rayeks end and riverside lodge fixed this for me too. I love the nexus site, there is always someone that knows what's wrong and how to fix it. Edited March 5, 2013 by LittleFighter
