Main menu not loading

Just got a new computer, loaded the mods and patches that I was using on the previous machine, and for some reason now there is just the loading circle in the main menu and it won't load the main menu.

I have done the following

  • disabled all mods and added them back in bit by bit (the problem is apparently with patches, as until I installed the patches, the main menu loaded normally.
  • removed the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini files
  • cleaned all mods with ssedit quick auto clean
  • verified local files

Please help, I'm a mostly house/bed bound woman bored out of my mind, and I'm really confused about why this is happening. This is pretty much an identical mod list to the one on the older laptop, so I don't know what's causing the problem. I'm also not very computer literate.

1. I assume, you sorted your load order with LOOT or the sorting function in Vortex (which is basically LOOT)? If not, do this first.

 

2. If you're sure the problem is one of the patches, do as you did with your other mods. Disable the patches one by one and test until you find the culprit. If you found it, leave the patch disabled or (even better) uninstall it.

Patches usually don't require an update with a new version of SKSE. The mods that need to be updated are those, that heavily rely on the functions provided by SKSE: Racemenu, AdditemMenu, SSE engine fixes... Stuff like that. I don't think the new SKSE broke a simple patch. At least it's rather unlikely.

 

Outdated patches are a different story though. If e.g. the Unofficial Patch (USSEP) was updated and your patches were for a previous version, this could indeed cause problems.

 

If you already know that the problematic file is one of the patches, try to investigate further in this direction. At least that's what I'd do. I know it's a long and winding road...

 

On a side note: I wonder what all those "Creation Club" patches are for? Why does an armor or crossbow mod from the CC need an additional patch?
