Thuellai
Hey, I'm looking at evening out VATS across distances a bit. Basically, right now it seems as though, on average, VATS is absurdly accurate at close range [with 95% persisting over a fairly decent distance], only to experience extreme drop-offs very quickly [by mid-range you might see a 30%, and long-range shots are basically impossible] I'd like to alter this so that drop offs begin earlier, leading to more 80%-ish values outside of point-blank range, but values slope more gradually rather than the current 'VATS Cliff'. It's my understanding that the core of such changes would be fVATSDistanceFactor, and that its equations are not linear... does anyone have the actual VATS equations so I can run some math and see exactly which VATS values would need to change and by how much to achieve the curve I want? Thuellai
Bumping to ask if anyone has cracked the calculation yet. I'm good at math, so if I understood the values I'm sure I could work out a formula for what I want. EDIT: So, looked into fVATSDistanceFactor. What I've found is, if completely eliminated, it creates perfect VATS accuracy up to maximum range. This makes me believe that the VATS formula must be an inaccuracy formula, and DistanceFactor must be multiplicative - therefore, a value of 0 creates a VATS inaccuracy of 0, the same way that weapon spread is nullified by a weapons skill of 100, because when multiplied against a DistanceFactor of 0, inaccuracy becomes 0, meaning that logically, the VATS formula assumes maximum accuracy and then applies reductive effects like spread/distance/etc. Therefore, I need to figure out what factors other than distance INCREASE inaccuracy, so that I can figure out ways to lower DistanceFactor without globally increasing accuracy. My goal is to smooth the distance curve, after all, not make VATS perfect. Edited February 9, 2014 by Thuellai
