imperium999
OK, so I've been playing Skyrim for well over a year now, and I have never advanced a single character beyond level 25. Why? Because the Nexus is a freaking addiction, and I can't seem to stop modding my game. Then I started using the console whenever it was convenient. Then I just started editing the game in the CK myself. So in short, I spend way too much time configuring Skyrim/My character and almost no time at all actually playing the game. So, here's my new strategy: Force myself to play on my Xbox! No mods, no console, no CK. Just the plain, vanilla game as Bethesda meant for me to play it. I know it doesn't look as good, but I think it really will help me actually play the game (which, actually, I really want to do!) Of course, I lost my Xbox disc, so yesterday, Bob help me, I actually purchased my FOURTH copy of Skyrim. I learned my lesson last time though, and this time I bought it direct from the Marketplace so there's no disc for me to lose anymore. What do you think? A good strategy, or just setting myself up for failure? Anyone else decided to shuck the mod vice and go plain vanilla?
Korodic
Setting yourself up for failure. That money you spent on another xbox copy? You should have bought me and you some Dominos :P But in all seriousness, modding can be addicting, but if you enjoy doing it, what is the issue? Just do as you need and grab what you like once in awhile. It keeps the game fresh and interesting. I started off playing vanilla before I started modding, so I know the difference in quality. So in my conclusion I believe... Vanilla, not even once.
Werne
Anyone else decided to shuck the mod vice and go plain vanilla?http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/34347086.jpgThat's pretty much my opinion on vanilla Skyrim (or any other game without mods). What can I say, I'm a mod addict and I'm proud of it.
imperistan
Vanilla is fine, but modded vanilla is awesome. One can mod the game but still maintain the vast majority of the vanilla gameplay/content/etc.
hard8
there are mods that fix and even remove journal entries after a quest is completed, there's even a mod that stops quests forced upon you and allows you a dialog to refuse the quest when forced upon you, like the dawnguard quest The Choice is Yours - Fewer Forced Quests - Improved Dialogue Options and Quest Eraser -- Remove Quest Objectives from Your Journal the quest eraser mod I have installed but unsure if it's working, all's I know is that the get certain side quests from the dawngaurd are no longer in journal after a while after getting all the essential rewards and weapons etc!.. Rooker75
You know, you can just deactivate all the mods for the PC version without wasting all that money on the toy computer version. That said, I wouldn't want to play without the unofficial patches. All those bugs... I don't understand the fascination some people have with playing a game "the way the developers intended." They're not playing it, you are. Might as well just watch a Let's Play on YouTube if you're not going to play it your way.

Oh, I've played it vanilla before, but the lure of mods ended that pretty quick. I know very well how mods make the game more fresh and interesting, but that really only works if you actually play the game, which I'm not. And I want to. I just can't, with all the mods and so forth that keep distracting me!
imperium999
You know, you can just deactivate all the mods for the PC version without wasting all that money on the toy computer version. Well, again, if I could just rely on willpower, I probably wouldn't be having this problem in the first place... I don't understand the fascination some people have with playing a game "the way the developers intended." They're not playing it, you are. Might as well just watch a Let's Play on YouTube if you're not going to play it your way. Well, maybe the 'as Bethesda intended it' was a little irrelevant to my point, so I apologize for the red herring. You're right; they're not playing it, I am. Except I'm not. Because of the lure of mods/the CK/the Console. That's why I've decided to try a platform that won't allow it...
fraquar
There is no way I could ever play vanilla unmodded again. I'd need at least 2 mods, a UI replacement and Community Uncapper. The latter just to nerf premature leveling of my player just from mundane things like opening a chest or selling items to a merchant.
AnkhAscendant
I completely understand where you're coming from (lone voice of dissent here :P) When I first got Skyrim I managed to play vanilla for about 3 months. Then I stopped playing, and since coming back some six months later I've spent at least three times as much time modding as playing >> I want to just stop and play because all of the modding is tiresome. So instead I go playing games that don't really support modding. My Civ V time is really racking up :]
